Delhi to Kainchi Dham 3-Day Itinerary by Overnight Departure

Day 1 · Thu, May 7
Delhi

Departure and arrival

  1. Anand Vihar ISBT — Anand Vihar, East Delhi — Start here for the overnight departure point and keep the evening simple before boarding. — night, ~1 hour
  2. Sagar Ratna — Rajouri Garden, West Delhi — A reliable North Indian dinner stop before the long drive; easy, quick, and budget-friendly. — evening, ~1 hour, approx. ₹400–700 per person
  3. India Gate (drive-by / late-evening stop) — Kartavya Path, Central Delhi — A short iconic photo stop if timing allows before heading out, with minimal detour from central Delhi. — late evening, ~30 minutes
  4. Connaught Place — Central Delhi — Best for a final coffee, snack, or last-minute essentials before departure. — evening, ~1 hour
  5. Night transfer to Kainchi Dham — Delhi to Nainital belt — Keep the rest of the night for travel so you arrive rested for the hill stay. — overnight, ~7–9 hours

Evening in East and West Delhi

Start your night at Anand Vihar ISBT in East Delhi and keep things very low-key — this is your practical launch point, not a sightseeing stop. If you’re coming in from elsewhere in the city, leave a buffer of 30–45 minutes because traffic around Anand Vihar can be slow after office hours. Grab water, snacks, and any motion-sickness meds here before you board; the bus bays are busy but organized enough, and it’s much easier to sort everything out here than halfway up the hill. From Anand Vihar, head to Sagar Ratna in Rajouri Garden for an easy North Indian dinner that won’t weigh you down before the overnight ride. It’s a reliable bet for idli-dosa, thali, and simple vegetarian meals, usually in the ₹400–700 per person range, and service is fast enough that you won’t lose the evening.

Quick central Delhi stop

If your timing is on your side, make a short detour to India Gate for a late-evening drive-by or a 20–30 minute photo stop along Kartavya Path. This is best done after dinner and before the city gets too quiet, when the lawns and the monument lights still feel lively. Don’t plan a long walk — just get your pictures, stretch your legs, and move on. If you want one last practical stop before leaving town, swing through Connaught Place for coffee, packaged snacks, or anything you forgot to pack. The inner and outer circles are full of familiar options, and late evening is usually easy for a quick run-in and run-out.

Overnight departure

After that, head straight into the night transfer to Kainchi Dham via the Delhi to Nainital belt and treat the rest of the night as travel time. If you’re on an overnight Volvo or similar bus, settle in early, keep a light jacket handy, and try to sleep as much as you can — the road usually takes around 7–9 hours, depending on traffic and the hill stretch. The goal is to arrive rested enough for Kainchi Dham darshan the next morning, so don’t overpack the schedule tonight.

Day 2 · Fri, May 8
Kainchi Dham

Kainchi Dham stay

Getting there from Delhi
Overnight Volvo bus from Anand Vihar ISBT to Bhowali/Nainital via Uttarakhand Parivahan or Blue World Travels (8–10h, ~₹900–1,800). Best if you want to leave after dinner and arrive early morning for Kainchi Dham darshan.
Private taxi/drive via NH9 + NH109 (6.5–8h, ~₹6,000–10,000 one-way). Best door-to-door option if traveling with family or carrying luggage.
  1. Kainchi Dham Neem Karoli Baba Ashram — Bhowali/Kainchi — Start with the main pilgrimage experience while the atmosphere is calm and devotional. — morning, ~2 hours
  2. Shervani Hilltop — Ayarpatta, Nainital — A peaceful breakfast/brunch stop with hill views to reset after darshan. — late morning, ~1 hour, approx. ₹500–900 per person
  3. Bhimtal Lake — Bhimtal — A relaxed lake visit with boating options and a quieter vibe than Nainital. — midday, ~1.5 hours
  4. Sattal — near Bhimtal — Great for a short nature walk and lake-view break without rushing. — afternoon, ~1.5 hours
  5. Machan Restaurant — Bhowali — A scenic dinner stop on the return to your stay, good for Kumaoni and North Indian dishes. — evening, ~1 hour, approx. ₹700–1,200 per person

Morning

Arrive at Kainchi Dham Neem Karoli Baba Ashram early and keep the first hour gentle — this is when the place feels the most settled, especially before the day gets busy with visitors. Plan on about 2 hours here, including time to queue quietly, sit for a bit, and take in the temple atmosphere without rushing. Dress modestly, carry a water bottle, and keep some small cash for offerings if you wish; the area is simple and devotional, not a place for a packed schedule. If you’re coming by early morning bus arrival, it’s worth heading straight here first, before breakfast, while the light is soft and the crowd is still manageable.

Late Morning

From Kainchi Dham, continue up to Shervani Hilltop in Ayarpatta, Nainital for a calm breakfast or brunch with a view. This is a nice reset after darshan: expect a proper sit-down meal, tea or coffee, and hill scenery rather than a rushed snack stop. Budget around ₹500–900 per person, and if you want the best flow, go for something simple like eggs, parathas, or a North Indian breakfast with tea. It’s a good place to pause and let the morning breathe before heading toward the lakes.

Midday and Afternoon

Next, make your way to Bhimtal Lake for a slower lake visit — quieter and less hectic than Nainital, which makes it ideal for a relaxed midday stop. Give yourself about 1.5 hours here if you want to walk by the water, sit for a bit, or do a short boating round if the weather feels good; boat rates usually vary by type and season, so ask on the spot. From there, continue to Sattal, where the mood shifts into something greener and more wooded. A short nature walk here is enough to feel refreshed — keep it unhurried, take the lake edge trails if they’re open, and don’t try to overpack this part of the day; the whole charm of Sattal is in lingering a little without a plan.

Evening

On the way back toward Bhowali, stop at Machan Restaurant for dinner — this is the kind of hill-station meal that feels earned after a day of temple visits and lake time. It’s a good place for Kumaoni and North Indian dishes, with dinner typically landing around ₹700–1,200 per person depending on what you order. Keep the evening easy, eat early if you want to avoid a late return, and then head back to your stay with enough energy for the next day’s Kainchi Dham schedule.

Day 3 · Sat, May 9
Kainchi Dham

Kainchi Dham and return

  1. Naina Devi Temple — Mallital, Nainital — Begin with an important hill temple and gentle morning energy before the return trip. — morning, ~1 hour
  2. Naini Lake — Mallital, Nainital — A calm paddle/boat stop that pairs naturally with the temple and lakeside area. — morning, ~1 hour
  3. Cafe Chica — Ayarpatta, Nainital — A leisurely brunch break with a classic mountain-cafe feel before checkout and departure. — late morning, ~1 hour, approx. ₹700–1,300 per person
  4. The Mall Road — Nainital — Good for picking up snacks, souvenirs, and a final stroll with lake views. — midday, ~1 hour
  5. G B Pant High Altitude Zoo — Tallital, Nainital — A compact last stop if you want one more activity before driving back, with easy routing toward the exit. — early afternoon, ~1–1.5 hours

Morning

Start at Naina Devi Temple in Mallital while the hill town is still quiet and the light is soft. It’s an easy, respectful first stop before the day turns into travel mode again—take about an hour, move slowly, and be prepared for a bit of walking and some steps around the temple approach. After that, drift down toward Naini Lake right away; this is the nicest time to be lakeside before the midday crowd builds. If you want to do a quick boat ride, expect roughly ₹150–₹300 per person for shared boats depending on season and type, and a little more for private rowing. Early morning on the water feels calmest, and the whole Mallital side is easiest to enjoy before traffic thickens.

Late Morning

Head to Cafe Chica in Ayarpatta for brunch and a proper breather before checkout. It’s one of those mountain-cafe stops that feels built for slow conversation, with the sort of view and setting that make you forget the clock for a bit. Budget around ₹700–₹1,300 per person if you’re having a full meal with drinks, and it’s worth going a little hungry so you can linger. From there, make your way back toward The Mall Road for a final walk through Nainital—good for picking up tea, local sweets, woollens, candles, or small souvenirs. Keep this to a relaxed hour; the road is best enjoyed unhurried, with lake glimpses rather than trying to “cover” it.

Afternoon

If you still have time and energy before leaving town, finish with G B Pant High Altitude Zoo in Tallital. It’s compact and works well as a last stop because the route is convenient for heading out afterward, and you won’t need to plan a long half-day around it. Expect about 1 to 1.5 hours, and note that it’s usually closed on Thursdays, so double-check if your return day happens to fall then. For the drive back, allow extra cushion once you leave Nainital—roads can be slow in weekend traffic or bad weather, and it’s always better to leave the hills earlier than you think.
