One-Day Bengaluru Itinerary from Bengaluru City Junction to Mangalore

Day 1 · Tue, May 12
Bengaluru, Karnataka

Breakfast and city loop in central Bengaluru

  1. Journey: Bengaluru City Junction (SBC) → Majestic / Kempegowda area by walk or auto — Central Bengaluru — 10–15 min if you clear the cloak room right after arrival; keep bags at the station cloak room and head out light, with an early auto/drop at a Majestic-side breakfast spot.

  2. Vidyarthi Bhavan — Gandhi Bazaar / Basavanagudi — Famous for crisp benne dosas and strong filter coffee, and worth the short metro/auto hop before the day heats up; breakfast, ~1 hour, approx. ₹150–250 per person.

  3. Cubbon Park — Vasanth Nagar / central Bengaluru — Best early-morning green break with shaded walking paths and the library side for a calm start; morning, ~1.5 hours.

  4. Church Street — Shivajinagar / MG Road — Easy to reach via metro and ideal for bookstores, café hopping, and casual street photography without much walking stress; late morning to early afternoon, ~2–2.5 hours.

  5. Orion Mall — Rajajinagar — A practical AC stop for the hot afternoon with food courts, seating, and restrooms, and a good place to recharge before evening food; afternoon, ~3–3.5 hours, food/snacks approx. ₹300–800 per person.

  6. VV Puram Food Street — Basavanagudi — The best end-of-day snack crawl for dosa, pav bhaji, chats, and desserts when you’re properly hungry; evening, ~1.5 hours, approx. ₹200–500 per person.

Arrival and breakfast run

Reach Bengaluru City Junction (SBC) early, drop your luggage at the cloak room first, and head out light — that makes the whole day much easier. From SBC, it’s usually a 10–15 minute auto ride to the Majestic / Gandhi Bazaar side depending on traffic, or you can just walk if you want to keep it simple and save time. For breakfast, go straight to Vidyarthi Bhavan in Basavanagudi; it’s a classic Bengaluru start, best for a proper benne dosa, idli-vada, and strong filter coffee. Expect a queue, especially on a weekday morning, so don’t overthink it — arrive a little before the rush, spend around ₹150–250 per person, and keep this one heavy because the rest of the day is very walk-and-wait friendly.

Morning green break and city wander

After breakfast, move to Cubbon Park while the weather is still forgiving. The easiest way is a short auto or metro-connected hop toward the Cubbon Park / Vidhana Soudha side; aim for the shaded stretches near the library side and bamboo pockets, where the morning feels calmer and cooler. Give yourself about 1.5 hours for a slow walk, a few photos, and just sitting under trees before the sun starts to bite. From there, head to Church Street via the metro toward MG Road — this is the nicest low-effort city stretch in central Bengaluru. It’s perfect for bookstore browsing, café hopping, and street photography; if you want a snack, grab something small and cheap rather than a full meal, because the afternoon is when you’ll want to rest more than eat.

Afternoon reset and evening food loop

By early afternoon, shift to Orion Mall in Rajajinagar for the practical part of the day: air-conditioning, seating, clean restrooms, and a place to charge your phone without feeling rushed. The metro makes this easy, and once you’re there, don’t try to over-plan it — wander the food court, sit down, maybe watch a movie if you feel like killing time, and budget roughly ₹300–800 per person depending on what you eat. After the heat fades, head to VV Puram Food Street in Basavanagudi for the proper Bengaluru evening. Go hungry and keep it flexible: try dosa, pav bhaji, chats, desserts, and holige, and expect to spend around ₹200–500 per person. Then make an unhurried return to Bengaluru City Junction (SBC) by around 8:45 PM, ideally by auto or metro+short walk depending on where you finish eating, so you’re comfortably in place for your 9:35 PM train to Mangalore.
