Nature Lover's 3-Day Itinerary in Hampi - November 2023

  1. Day 1: Sunrise at Matanga Hill
    5 minutes (1.2 km) from Hampi Bazaar

    Start your day early and head to Matanga Hill to catch the sunrise. The 20-minute hike to the top is steep, but the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape make it worth the effort. After descending, head to Mango Tree Restaurant for a hearty breakfast of local delicacies. Spend the afternoon exploring the iconic Virupaksha Temple and its surrounding bazaar. In the evening, take a coracle ride on the Tungabhadra River and watch the sunset over the hills.

  2. Day 2: Riverside Walk and Waterfalls
    15 minutes (5.3 km) from Hampi Bazaar

    Start your day with a refreshing riverside walk along the Tungabhadra River. Visit the Anjaneya Hill, a pilgrimage site with a Hanuman temple. After lunch at Laughing Buddha Cafe, head to the beautiful Sanapur Lake and jump into its crystal clear waters. If time permits, visit the nearby Hanumanahalli and hike to the Hanuman temple which offers a magnificent view of the lake. In the evening, visit the stunning and photogenic Sasivekalu and Kadalekalu Ganesha temples and enjoy the sunset view from Hemakuta Hill.

  3. Day 3: Hampi's Natural Arch and Hippie Island
    30 minutes (8.6 km) from Hampi Bazaar

    In the morning, visit the unique and awe-inspiring Natural Arch, a natural rock formation that resembles an arch. After the visit, head to the nearby Mango Forest for a peaceful nature walk. In the afternoon, take a ferry ride to the Hippie Island and explore the relaxed and laid-back vibe of the island. Grab lunch at one of the many cafes on the island and enjoy the view of the river. End your day with a sunset hike to the Monkey Temple which offers a stunning panoramic view of the island and the river.

Aside from the above itinerary, you can also consider visiting the Hampi Museum, the Lotus Mahal, the Elephant Stables and the Queen's Bath. Take a side trip to the nearby Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary and witness the rare Indian Sloth bears in their natural habitat. To maximize your fun, try out Hampi's rock climbing activities or take a bicycle tour around the region. Lastly, don't forget to sample the local sweets like Holige and Obbattu.
