A stunning example of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, the Bamberg Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It houses many artworks and has an interesting history, including being home to the tomb of Pope Clement II.
The Altes Rathaus, or Old Town Hall, is located in the middle of the Obere Brücke or Upper Bridge which spans the Regnitz River. It is a beautiful half-timbered building with incredible detail, and today it houses the Ludwig Collection of porcelain and the Historical Museum of Bamberg.
This traditional brewery and tavern is famous for their smoked beer, which has been brewed using the same techniques for centuries. The brewery tour is interesting but the real attraction is the tavern, where you can enjoy a pint of their famous "smoked beer" and try some of the local cuisine.
Bamberg's Little Venice is a picturesque area of small fisherman's houses along the Regnitz River. There's a beautiful bridge, stunning architecture and several quaint cafes with great views. You can also take a boat ride or a romantic walk along the banks.
The Neue Residenz is a Baroque palace that dates back to 1697. Today it houses the Museum of the City of Bamberg, which contains numerous works of art from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods.
Bamberg is a small city, so it's easy to get around on foot. However, if you prefer not to walk, there are local buses and taxis available. A single bus ticket costs €2 and a taxi ride costs around €10-15
If you have more time, explore Bamberg's many museums such as the Natural History Museum or the Diocesan Museum. If you have less time, consider skipping Neue Residenz and spending more time in the Old Town. Don't forget to try some of the local Franconian cuisine and beer.
