5-Day Itinerary for Prayagraj, Varanasi in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Prayagraj Fort and Ashoka Pillar
    30 minutes (6.7 miles) from Prayagraj Airport

    In the morning, explore the Prayagraj Fort, a 16th-century fort situated on the banks of the Yamuna River. Visit the Ashoka Pillar, a 3rd-century BC monument erected by Emperor Ashoka. In the afternoon, take a stroll at Anand Bhawan, a historic house museum where Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, lived. In the evening, enjoy the Sound and Light show at the fort.

  2. Day 2: Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Manikarnika Ghat
    20 minutes (4.8 miles) from Prayagraj Fort

    In the morning, visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the most revered Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. After that, explore the Banaras Hindu University and the Bharat Kala Bhavan museum. In the afternoon, take a boat ride along the Ganges to see various ghats, including the famous Manikarnika Ghat, where Hindu cremations take place. In the evening, attend the Ganga Aarti ceremony at Dashashwamedh Ghat.

  3. Day 3: Sarnath and Ramnagar Fort

    In the morning, visit Sarnath, a deer park where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma after his enlightenment.     In the morning, visit Assi Ghat, a popular ghat among locals and tourists alike. Take a dip in the Ganges and experience the spiritual ambiance. Visit the Tulsi Manas Temple and the Durga Temple nearby. In the afternoon, head to the Golden Temple, a famous Sikh temple with a unique architecture and a peaceful atmosphere. Enjoy the langar (free communal meal) and learn about the Sikh faith. In the evening, explore the nearby streets for shopping and street food.

  5. Day 5: Dhamek Stupa and Chaukhandi Stupa
    45 minutes (9.6 miles) from Golden Temple

    In the morning, visit Dhamek Stupa, a massive stupa built during the Mauryan period and one of the most well-preserved stupas in India. Explore the ruins and the museum to learn about Buddhism and its spread in India. After that, head to Chaukhandi Stupa, an ancient Buddhist stupa that marks the site where Lord Buddha met his first disciples after his enlightenment. In the evening, enjoy a cultural show at the Cultural Complex.
