Dalhousie and Leh 3-Day Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Dalhousie
    2 hours 15 minutes (50.6 miles) from Pathankot Airport

    Morning: Start your day at the Dainkund Peak for a panoramic view of the Himalayas. Then, visit the St. Francis Church, which is one of the oldest churches in North India.
    Afternoon: After lunch, head over to the Khajjiar Lake for boating and enjoy the serene surroundings. Then, visit the Khajji Nag Temple, which is dedicated to the God of Serpents.
    Evening: Visit the Panchpula waterfall, which is surrounded by beautiful greenery and streams. You can also go for a short trek nearby.

  2. Day 2: Leh
    15 minutes (3.5 miles) from Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport

    Morning: Begin your day with the Shanti Stupa, a white-domed Buddhist stupa that offers a breathtaking view of the city. Then, make your way to the Leh Palace, which is a nine-storey palace that has now been converted to a museum.
    Afternoon: After lunch, head over to the Magnetic Hill, a place where the magnetic force is so strong that it can pull cars uphill. Then, visit the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, which is a famous Sikh temple.
    Evening: Spend your evening shopping at the Leh market, which is filled with traditional handicrafts, jewellery and clothing.

  3. Day 3: Nubra Valley
    4 hours 30 minutes (120 miles) from Leh

    Morning: Head out early in the morning to Nubra Valley, which is known for its scenic beauty and sand dunes. En route, you can visit the Khardung La Pass, which is one of the highest motorable roads in the world.
    Afternoon: After lunch, visit the Diskit Monastery, which is one of the oldest and largest monasteries in the region. Then, you can go for a camel ride at the Hunder Sand Dunes.
    Evening: Enjoy the sunset at the sand dunes and return to Leh.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can visit the Hemis Monastery, which is the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. You can also go for a trek to the Markha Valley or the Rupshu Valley. To maximise your fun, try to attend a Ladakhi cultural show or festival. For side trips, you can visit the nearby Pangong Tso Lake or the Tso Moriri Lake. Don't forget to try the local cuisine, such as momos and thukpa, and visit the local apricot farms.
