Start your day by visiting Hanuman Tok, a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Located on a hilltop, it offers a stunning view of the city and surrounding mountains.
Next up is Enchey Monastery, a 200-year-old monastery that combines Tibetan and Sikkimese architecture. The monastery is known for its annual Chaam dance festival, held in December.
Take a ride on the Gangtok ropeway, and get a bird's eye view of the city. The ropeway connects Deorali market to Tashiling, and offers great views of the valley below.
Drive up to Tashi Viewpoint for panoramic views of the Kangchenjunga mountain range. The viewpoint is located on the North Sikkim highway, and offers a view of the confluence of the Teesta and Rangeet rivers.
Head to The Square, a popular restaurant in Gangtok, for lunch. They serve a variety of cuisines, including Indian, Chinese, and Tibetan. Don't forget to try the momos!
Visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, a research center for Tibetan culture and language. The museum has a collection of rare Tibetan artifacts and manuscripts, and also offers courses in Tibetan language and Buddhism.
Stop by the Flower Exhibition Centre, which showcases the various flowers and plants found in Sikkim. The center is maintained by the Department of Horticulture and showcases over 200 species of orchids.
End your day with a stroll down MG Marg, a pedestrian-only street in Gangtok. Lined with shops and restaurants, it's a great place to people-watch and soak in the local culture.
If you have time, consider visiting the Rumtek Monastery, located 24 km from Gangtok. It's one of the largest monasteries in Sikkim and is known for its beautiful murals and thangkas. Another side trip to consider is a visit to the Tsomgo Lake, located 38 km from Gangtok. It's a glacial lake situated at an altitude of 12,400 feet and is a popular spot for boating and yak rides. To maximize your fun, try some of the local cuisines like thukpa, a noodle soup, or gundruk, a fermented leafy vegetable dish. And finally, don't forget to visit the local markets to buy souvenirs like handicrafts and traditional Sikkimese clothing.
