Day 1 · Thu, Jun 25
Dubai

Start of trip

  1. Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood — Al Fahidi, Bur Dubai — Start with Dubai’s best preserved old quarter, with wind-tower lanes, galleries, and courtyard houses; morning, ~1.5 hours.
  2. Dubai Museum (Al Fahidi Fort) — Al Fahidi, Bur Dubai — A compact stop to understand the city’s transformation from creek trading post to megacity; late morning, ~45 minutes.
  3. Arabian Tea House Restaurant & Café — Al Fahidi, Bur Dubai — A classic place for Emirati-style breakfast or lunch in a shaded courtyard; late morning/lunch, ~1 hour, approx. AED 60–120 per person.
  4. Dubai Creek Abra Ride — Dubai Creek, Al Fahidi to Deira — Cross the creek the traditional way for great skyline and souk views; early afternoon, ~30 minutes including waiting time.
  5. Gold Souk — Deira — Best for a lively walk through one of Dubai’s most famous market streets and window-shopping for gold and jewelry; mid-afternoon, ~1 hour.
  6. Al Khayma Heritage Restaurant — Al Seef, Bur Dubai — Finish with an atmospheric dinner on the creekside in a heritage-style setting; evening, ~1.5 hours, approx. AED 80–180 per person.

Morning

Start in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood while the lanes are still quiet and the light is soft on the wind towers. This is one of the few parts of Dubai that still feels intimate: sandy courtyards, art galleries, tiny museums, and narrow alleys that are best explored on foot without much of a plan. Give yourself about 1.5 hours to wander slowly; most spaces open around 9:00 AM, and it’s smart to arrive early before the heat builds. If you’re coming by taxi, ask for Al Fahidi Metro Station or Al Seef and walk in from there — parking is limited and the old lanes are not ideal for driving around.

Late Morning to Lunch

From there, head to Dubai Museum (Al Fahidi Fort) for a quick, useful reset on the city’s story — it’s compact, so 45 minutes is plenty. The fort itself is one of the oldest buildings in Dubai, and while parts of the museum can occasionally be partially closed for updates, it’s still worth the stop for the exhibit on pearl diving, desert life, and creek trade. After that, settle into Arabian Tea House Restaurant & Café for a relaxed late breakfast or lunch in the courtyard. Order the Emirati breakfast if you’re hungry, or keep it light with tea, fresh bread, and hummus; expect around AED 60–120 per person. It’s a good place to pause, cool down, and people-watch rather than rush.

Afternoon Exploring

After lunch, make your way down to the water for the Dubai Creek Abra Ride. The abra is the old-school, no-fuss way to cross the creek, and it’s one of the best-value experiences in the city at just a few dirhams. The ride from the Bur Dubai side to Deira takes only a few minutes, but allow about 30 minutes total for waiting, boarding, and enjoying the creek views. On the Deira side, wander into the Gold Souk and follow the main market streets at your own pace. Even if you’re not buying, it’s fun to browse the shop windows, compare designs, and soak up the bustle; most shops stay open into the evening, but mid-afternoon is calmer than the late-night rush.

Evening

Wrap up with dinner at Al Khayma Heritage Restaurant in Al Seef, which is easy to reach back across the creek by abra or taxi depending on your energy. It’s one of the nicer places in the area for a heritage-style meal without feeling overly formal, and the creekside setting works especially well at sunset and after dark. Plan on 1.5 hours and roughly AED 80–180 per person depending on what you order. If you still have a little time afterward, stay for a short walk along the waterfront promenade before heading back — the route is straightforward, and taxis are usually easy to find here once the dinner crowd starts thinning out.
