Dharamsala 2-Day Itinerary for July 2023

  1. Day 1: McLeod Ganj and Dal Lake
    15 minutes (2.3 miles) from Dharamsala

    In the morning, visit the Tsuglagkhang Complex, the largest Tibetan temple outside Tibet. Here you can see the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and a museum dedicated to him. In the afternoon, head to Bhagsu Nag Temple, an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. After that, take a short hike to the Bhagsu Waterfall. In the evening, take a stroll around the Dal Lake, a serene and peaceful spot surrounded by deodar trees.

  2. Day 2: Dharamkot and Kangra Fort
    40 minutes (9.6 miles) from McLeod Ganj

    In the morning, explore the quaint village of Dharamkot, popular for its cafes and yoga centers. You can also visit the Tushita Meditation Centre which offers courses on Buddhism and meditation. In the afternoon, visit the Kangra Fort, one of the oldest forts in India, dating back to the 4th century BC. The fort has a rich history and offers stunning views of the surrounding valley. In the evening, head back to McLeod Ganj and explore the local markets for souvenirs and handicrafts.

If you have time, consider visiting the Norbulingka Institute, a center for Tibetan arts and culture. You can also take a day trip to Triund, a popular hiking spot with stunning views of the Himalayas. For adventure enthusiasts, there are also options for paragliding and trekking.
