Ooty and Mudhumalai 3-Day Family-Friendly Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Ooty Botanical Gardens
    10 minutes (3.2 km) from Ooty Lake

    In the morning, explore the serene Ooty Botanical Gardens, home to a vast collection of exotic plants and flowers. Take a stroll through the lush greenery, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Rose Garden and enjoy the colourful blooms. For the evening, take a ride on the Ooty Toy Train and marvel at the beautiful scenery as the train chugs along.

  2. Day 2: Mudumalai National Park
    2 hours 30 minutes (75 km) from Ooty Botanical Gardens

    Spend the morning on a thrilling jeep safari in the Mudumalai National Park, known for its rich flora and fauna. Spot elephants, tigers, deer, and other wildlife in their natural habitat. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Theppakadu Elephant Camp and watch the majestic creatures bathe and play in the river. For the evening, head back to Ooty and take a leisurely boat ride on the Ooty Lake.

  3. Day 3: Dolphin's Nose Viewpoint
    1 hour 20 minutes (36 km) from Mudumalai National Park

    In the morning, take a scenic drive to the Dolphin's Nose Viewpoint and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Spend the afternoon exploring the quaint town of Coonoor, known for its tea plantations and scenic railway. Visit the Sim's Park and marvel at the beautiful landscaping and colourful flowers. For the evening, head back to Ooty and enjoy a sumptuous dinner at one of the many local restaurants.

Recommendations

If you want to experience more wildlife, you can also visit the Bandipur National Park, which is located about 2 hours from Mudumalai National Park. You can also take a day trip to the nearby town of Kotagiri and visit the Kodanad Viewpoint and Catherine Falls. For adventure enthusiasts, there are many trekking trails in the surrounding hills and mountains. Don't forget to try the local tea and chocolates, which are a specialty of the region.
