4-Day City Experience Itinerary for Goa in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Old Goa
    30 minutes (15.4 km) from Goa International Airport

    Start your morning by exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Old Goa. Visit the imposing Basilica of Bom Jesus, which houses the remains of St. Francis Xavier. Then head to the Se Cathedral, the largest church in Asia, and marvel at its Portuguese-Gothic architecture. In the afternoon, stroll through the ancient ruins of the Church of St. Augustine and the Convent and Church of St. Francis of Assisi. End your day with a sunset cruise on the Mandovi River, where you can enjoy live music, dance performances, and Goan cuisine.

  2. Day 2: Panaji and Dona Paula
    20 minutes (8.2 km) from Old Goa

    Start your morning at the Goa State Museum, which showcases the state's rich history and culture. Then, head to the Fontainhas neighbourhood in Panaji, which is known for its colourful Portuguese-style houses and quaint cafes. In the afternoon, head to Dona Paula and relax on the beach, or try your luck at the Casino Goa. End your day with a tour of the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, where you can spot a variety of migratory birds.

  3. Day 3: Margao and Colva Beach
    40 minutes (21.3 km) from Dona Paula

    Start your morning by exploring the historic city of Margao. Visit the Church of the Holy Spirit, the Largo de Igreja square, and the old market, which is a treasure trove of spices, Goan sweets, and handicrafts. In the afternoon, head to Colva Beach, one of Goa's most popular beaches. Relax on the white sands, take a dip in the Arabian Sea, or indulge in some water sports. End your day with a seafood dinner at one of the beachside shacks.

  4. Day 4: Mapusa and Anjuna Beach
    50 minutes (23.6 km) from Colva Beach

    Start your morning by visiting the bustling market town of Mapusa. Browse through the colourful stalls selling everything from fresh produce to textiles. Then, head to Anjuna Beach, which is known for its hippie vibe and flea market. Relax on the beach, shop for souvenirs, or party at one of the beachside clubs. In the evening, catch a traditional Goan dance performance at the Tiatr Academy.

Recommendations

While in Goa, consider taking a day trip to the Dudhsagar Falls, which are at their peak during the monsoon season. You can also explore the spice plantations of Ponda, or go dolphin spotting at Palolem Beach. To maximize your fun, try some of the local delicacies like fish curry rice, bebinca, and feni. Don't forget to relax and soak up the laid-back Goan vibe!
