Goa Family Road Trip from Mopa Airport to Madgaon via Candolim, Panaji, Old Goa, Anjuna and South Goa

Day 1 · Sun, Sep 27
Candolim, Goa

Arrival and relaxed Candolim welcome

  1. Mopa International Airport → Becks Holiday Home — Mopa–Candolim; land at 1:00 am, collect the self-drive car and drive via NH 66, approximately 45–60 minutes. Rest after arrival; begin sightseeing around 9:00 am.
  2. Candolim Beach — Candolim; an easy first outing with accessible beachfront walking, morning, ~1.5 hours.
  3. Newton’s Supermarket — Candolim; pick up water, snacks and essentials, late morning, ~30 minutes.
  4. Calamari Bathe & Binge — Candolim Beach; relaxed lunch with seafood and Goan dishes, 1:00–2:00 pm, approximately ₹500–700 per person.
  5. Sinquerim Beach — Sinquerim; quieter shoreline suitable for a gentle family walk, late afternoon, ~1 hour.
  6. Fisherman’s Wharf Candolim — Candolim; dependable dinner setting with seafood, curries and vegetarian options, 8:00–9:00 pm, approximately ₹500–700 per person.

Early morning arrival and check-in

After landing at Mopa International Airport at 1:00 am, collect your pre-booked self-drive car and leave via NH 66 towards Candolim. The drive is usually 45–60 minutes at that hour; keep the airport-to-Candolim route saved offline, as some interior stretches are poorly lit. Since you are travelling with your 70-year-old father, go straight to Becks Holiday Home, complete the late-night check-in, and sleep rather than attempting sightseeing. Begin the day around 9:00 am, after breakfast and rest. Confirm the car’s fuel level, insurance papers and spare tyre before setting out.

Morning and lunch

Walk or drive to Candolim Beach around 9:30 am for an easy first outing. Stay near the main access points, where the sand is generally easier for your father to manage, and spend about 90 minutes by the water rather than walking the entire shoreline. On the way back, stop at Newton’s Supermarket for bottled water, fruit, breakfast snacks, sunscreen and any medicines; it is a convenient practical stop rather than a sightseeing visit. For lunch at Calamari Bathe & Binge, allow 1:00–2:00 pm and request a shaded table. Good choices include Goan fish curry-rice, recheado fish, prawn curry, calamari, chicken cafreal and a vegetarian thali; expect roughly ₹500–700 per person depending on seafood. Ask the restaurant about the day’s catch and avoid ordering more seafood than the family can comfortably share.

Afternoon and evening

Return to Becks Holiday Home for a proper rest during the hottest hours. Around 4:30 pm, drive 10–15 minutes south to Sinquerim Beach, a quieter and more manageable place for a gentle family walk. Park only in marked or clearly permitted areas, keep valuables in the car’s locked boot, and avoid swimming if the sea is rough or lifeguards advise against it. Finish with dinner at Fisherman’s Wharf Candolim from 8:00–9:00 pm; reserve or arrive early for a family table. Recommended dishes include Goan fish curry, prawn balchão, squid or calamari, chicken xacuti and vegetable rice/noodles, with vegetarian curries available on request. Budget ₹500–700 per person. After dinner, drive back to Becks Holiday Home and keep the evening quiet—tomorrow’s kayaking and coastal sightseeing will be more enjoyable after a full night’s rest.

Day 2 · Mon, Sep 28
Candolim, Goa

Candolim beaches, Fort Aguada and kayaking

  1. Candolim Beach kayaking — Candolim; arrange a guided, tide- and weather-dependent kayaking session through a reputable local operator, 7:00–8:30 am.
  2. Café Chocolatti — Candolim; popular garden café for breakfast such as pancakes, eggs, sandwiches, coffee and fresh juice, 9:00–10:00 am, approximately ₹300–600 per person.
  3. Fort Aguada — Sinquerim; explore the historic fort, lighthouse surroundings and viewpoints, 10:30 am–12:00 pm.
  4. Basilica of Bom Jesus — Old Goa; visit Goa’s landmark Baroque church, 1:00–1:45 pm.
  5. Gunpowder — Assagao; acclaimed South Indian and Goan lunch, 2:00–3:15 pm, approximately ₹500–700 per person.
  6. Britto’s — Baga; iconic beachfront dinner with seafood, Goan dishes and desserts, 8:00–9:00 pm, approximately ₹500–700 per person.

Morning

Begin at Candolim Beach around 6:45 am for the pre-arranged guided kayaking session, scheduled for 7:00–8:30 am. Use a reputable operator that supplies life jackets and adjusts the outing to the tide and weather; September can still bring sudden showers, so confirm by phone that morning. Keep valuables at your accommodation, wear quick-drying clothes, and avoid kayaking if the sea is rough. Afterward, drive or walk to Café Chocolatti in Candolim—allow roughly 10–15 minutes by car and check parking on the approach. Settle in for breakfast from 9:00–10:00 am; pancakes, eggs, sandwiches, coffee and fresh juice are reliable choices, with most meals around ₹300–600 per person. The leafy garden setting is especially comfortable for your 70-year-old father, but carry mosquito repellent.

At about 10:15 am, drive north along the Candolim–Sinquerim Road to Fort Aguada, approximately 10 minutes away. Park near the entrance and take the fort slowly: the main ramparts, old Portuguese prison area and sea-facing viewpoints are manageable, though the uneven stones and midday heat call for sturdy shoes, water and a hat. Allow 10:30 am–12:00 pm; the fort complex generally opens during daylight hours, but the lighthouse area may have separate access or restrictions. From Fort Aguada, continue toward Old Goa via the NH 66 and Panaji bypass, allowing about 45–60 minutes depending on traffic. For the next stop, park in the designated heritage-area parking rather than attempting to drive close to the church.

Afternoon and evening

Visit Basilica of Bom Jesus from 1:00–1:45 pm. Dress modestly, keep voices low, and check the current photography rules; the church is usually open during daytime visiting hours, although religious services can temporarily limit access. Your father may prefer the shorter route around the basilica rather than prolonged standing. Then drive to Gunpowder in Assagao, approximately 35–45 minutes via Mapusa and the village roads. Aim to arrive around 2:00 pm, but call ahead because this popular restaurant can be busy and September rain may slow the drive. Order family-style if possible—Goan fish curry, pork or chicken vindaloo, appam, kori ghee roast, vegetable thali and a seasonal dessert are good choices; expect roughly ₹500–700 per person. After lunch, return to Candolim for a genuine rest at the holiday home rather than adding another sightseeing stop. Leave around 6:45 pm for Baga—traffic through Calangute can be heavy, so allow 30–45 minutes and use the restaurant’s nearby parking or a paid lot.

Finish with dinner at Britto’s on Baga Beach from 8:00–9:00 pm. Request a table away from the loudest beachfront area for your father and confirm the kitchen’s current closing time; September beach access and outdoor seating can change with weather. Good shared orders include Goan fish curry with rice, prawn balchão, grilled fish, chicken cafreal, vegetable pasta and the well-known dessert platter or bebinca. Budget ₹500–700 per person, more if ordering premium seafood. After dinner, drive back to Candolim—normally 15–25 minutes late in the evening—and avoid swimming or walking far along the beach after dark.

Day 3 · Tue, Sep 29
Palolem, Goa

South Goa heritage and beaches

Getting there from Candolim, Goa
Drive via NH 66, preferably in the existing rental car (2.5–3 hours, approximately ₹700–1,200 including fuel and tolls). Depart around 6:30 am to match the planned 9:30 am arrival; reserve parking near Palolem.
Private taxi via GoaMiles or a local hotel-arranged taxi (3–3.5 hours, approximately ₹2,500–3,500).
  1. Candolim → Palolem — NH 66 via Margao, approximately 2.5–3 hours; depart at 6:30 am with fuel and toll preparations, arriving around 9:30 am.
  2. Palolem Beach — Canacona; scenic crescent beach with relatively calm water and easy family strolling, 9:30–11:30 am.
  3. Art Resort Café — Palolem; beachfront breakfast or early brunch with eggs, pancakes, sandwiches and juices, 10:00–11:00 am, approximately ₹300–600 per person.
  4. Butterfly Beach viewpoint and boat excursion — Palolem/Canacona; take a short local boat trip if sea conditions permit rather than attempting a long walk, 11:30 am–1:00 pm.
  5. Dropadi Bar & Restaurant — Palolem; casual seafood, Goan thali and vegetarian lunch near the beach, 1:00–2:00 pm, approximately ₹400–700 per person.
  6. Cola Beach — Canacona; finish with a quieter lagoon-and-sea landscape before returning north, 4:00–5:30 pm; dine at a well-reviewed Palolem beach restaurant around 8:00 pm, approximately ₹400–700 per person.

Morning

Leave Candolim at about 6:30 am on NH 66, stopping briefly near Margao for fuel and tea. The drive to Palolem normally takes 2½–3 hours; keep some cash for parking and arrive around 9:30 am. Park in one of the paid lots behind the beach rather than trying to drive onto the narrow access lanes. After stretching your legs, settle into the beachfront seating at Art Resort Café between 10:00 and 11:00 am. Good family-friendly choices include Goan egg breakfast, pancakes, grilled sandwiches, fresh fruit bowls and banana shakes; allow roughly ₹300–600 per person. September showers are possible, so choose covered seating and keep your beach bags light.

From Palolem Beach, arrange a short local boat excursion to the Butterfly Beach viewpoint around 11:30 am. Boats usually leave from the northern end of the beach and the fare is negotiated by boat and dependent on sea conditions; expect roughly ₹1,200–2,500 for a family boat, with life jackets requested for everyone. The boat ride is preferable to the forest-and-rock walk for your 70-year-old father, and the boatman can wait briefly for photographs. Skip the trip if the sea is choppy or rain is heavy.

Lunch and afternoon

Return to the beach by about 1:00 pm and have lunch at Dropadi Bar & Restaurant, close to the main beach access. Consider Goan fish curry with rice, prawns fry, chicken xacuti, a vegetarian Goan thali or mushroom-and-vegetable rice; individual meals generally fit ₹400–700 per person, depending on seafood. Keep lunch relaxed, as the afternoon drive and beach access are more comfortable without rushing.

Leave for Cola Beach around 3:15 pm—allow 35–45 minutes via the Canacona interior roads, with a final narrow and uneven approach. The beach is beautiful but not especially easy for older visitors: park at the top, take the descent slowly, and enjoy the lagoon-and-sea view from the accessible upper area if the sand is soft or wet. Spend roughly 4:00–5:30 pm here rather than attempting a long swim; currents and monsoon swell can be unpredictable. Return to Palolem before dark, since the interior road is poorly lit.

Evening

After resting at your accommodation, have dinner around 8:00 pm at The Rustic Café, Zest Café and Kitchen, Café Inn, Royal Touch Beach Huts, or Avocado Garden Restaurant in and around Palolem. For a family table, look for Goan fish curry rice, prawn or calamari starters, wood-fired pizza, grilled chicken, vegetable pasta and fresh lime soda; most main dishes remain within ₹400–700 per person. Zest is a useful vegetarian-friendly choice, while the beachfront restaurants are best for atmosphere but may be slower after rain. Keep the evening gentle—tomorrow’s northbound transfer is long, so confirm your car’s fuel level and pack the beach towels before turning in.

Day 4 · Wed, Sep 30
Anjuna, Goa

South Goa coast and transfer to Anjuna

Getting there from Palolem, Goa
Drive via NH 66, with the Cabo de Rama, Agonda, Betalbatim and Quepem stops en route (approximately 3.5–4.5 hours total driving, ₹1,000–1,600 fuel/tolls). Leave Palolem around 7:00 am; after Palácio do Deão, continue north and expect Anjuna around 7:00–8:00 pm.
Private taxi arranged through the accommodation or GoaMiles (approximately ₹3,500–5,000); agree on a full-day fare because of the multiple stops.
  1. Palolem → Cabo de Rama Fort — coastal route via Canacona and Quepem, approximately 1.25–1.5 hours; depart at 7:00 am.
  2. Cabo de Rama Fort — Canacona/Quepem; dramatic clifftop ruins with broad sea views, 8:30–9:45 am.
  3. Mango Tree Café — Agonda; breakfast with omelettes, pancakes, fruit bowls, coffee and fresh juices, 10:15–11:15 am, approximately ₹300–600 per person.
  4. Agonda Beach — Agonda; spacious, calmer beach for a family walk and rest, 11:15 am–12:45 pm.
  5. Martin’s Corner — Betalbatim; iconic Goan lunch featuring seafood, xacuti, cafreal and vegetarian dishes, 1:45–3:00 pm, approximately ₹500–700 per person.
  6. Palácio do Deão — Quepem; gardens and Indo-Portuguese heritage experience, advance confirmation recommended, 4:00–5:30 pm. Continue to Anjuna via NH 66, approximately 2 hours; check in at Secrets by Aloha Goa around 7:30 pm and have dinner nearby.

Morning — Palolem to Cabo de Rama Fort

Leave Palolem at 7:00 am with luggage secured in the car. Follow the coastal road via Canacona and Quepem; the drive to Cabo de Rama Fort takes roughly 1¼–1½ hours. The final approach is narrow in places, so drive slowly. Park near the fort entrance and carry water, hats and comfortable shoes—the laterite paths are uneven and exposed. Explore the atmospheric ruins and cliff edge from 8:30–9:45 am; the sea views are excellent, but keep children and your father well back from unfenced edges. There is little reliable food at the fort, so do not plan breakfast there.

Drive about 25–30 minutes to Mango Tree Café in Agonda for breakfast from 10:15–11:15 am. Good choices include omelettes, pancakes, fruit bowls, granola, fresh juices and coffee; allow approximately ₹300–600 per person. After breakfast, walk or drive a short distance to Agonda Beach for an easy family stroll and shaded rest until about 12:45 pm. This is a better stop for relaxation than swimming in September, when monsoon surf and currents can remain unpredictable. Keep valuables in the car only if they are fully out of sight, and use the beach facilities near the busier access points.

Afternoon and evening — Betalbatim, Quepem and onward to Anjuna

Leave Agonda around 12:45 pm, allowing about an hour for the inland-and-coastal drive to Martin’s Corner in Betalbatim. Aim to arrive at 1:45 pm for lunch and stay until 3:00 pm. This popular Goan restaurant is a useful family stop: try prawn curry rice, chicken cafreal, fish thali, pork vindaloo or vegetable xacuti, generally ₹500–700 per person depending on seafood orders. From there, drive approximately 35–40 minutes inland to Palácio do Deão in Quepem, arriving around 4:00 pm. The private Indo-Portuguese house and gardens are visited by prior arrangement, so confirm today’s entry and any meal requirement before setting out; allow 1–1½ hours for the guided visit. The garden paths are more comfortable than the house stairs for a 70-year-old, but ask for a slower tour.

After 5:30 pm, rejoin NH 66 northbound toward Anjuna, allowing around two hours, plus traffic near Margao, Ponda and Mapusa. Expect to reach Secrets by Aloha Goa around 7:30–8:00 pm; call the property if your arrival slips, and check that parking is available before unloading. For dinner, stay close to the accommodation rather than driving again: consider Eva Café for Mediterranean and Goan plates, The Lazy Dog for pizzas and burgers, Artjuna Garden Café for salads and pasta, Maka Zai for Goan-inspired dishes, or Baba Au Rhum for sandwiches and desserts. Most should fit ₹400–700 per person, but check closing times because September schedules can change with rain. Keep tonight deliberately light after the long transfer, and refuel the car near Mapusa or Anjuna before returning it tomorrow or continuing your sightseeing.

Day 5 · Thu, Oct 1
Panaji, Goa

Old Goa, Panaji and river cruise

Getting there from Anjuna, Goa
Drive via NH 66 (45–60 minutes, approximately ₹300–500 fuel/tolls). Depart around 7:30 am for Old Goa, then continue to Panaji by noon; use designated parking near the heritage precinct and Fontainhas.
GoaMiles or a hotel-arranged taxi (1–1.25 hours, approximately ₹900–1,500), useful if avoiding city parking.
  1. Anjuna → Old Goa — NH 66, approximately 45–60 minutes; depart at 7:30 am and use designated parking near the heritage precinct.
  2. Basilica of Bom Jesus — Old Goa; Goa’s most important historic church and a UNESCO-listed monument, 8:30–9:30 am.
  3. Sé Cathedral — Old Goa; impressive cathedral architecture directly opposite the basilica, 9:30–10:15 am.
  4. Vinayak Family Restaurant — Old Goa; practical breakfast with poha, idli, dosa, omelettes and tea, 10:15–11:00 am, approximately ₹150–350 per person.
  5. Fontainhas — Panaji; walk the colorful Latin Quarter and its heritage lanes, 12:00–1:15 pm.
  6. Viva Panjim — Panaji; traditional Goan lunch including fish thali, pork vindaloo, xacuti and vegetarian preparations, 1:15–2:30 pm, approximately ₹400–700 per person. Walk to the Mandovi riverfront and board a Goa Tourism River Cruise around 5:00–6:00 pm; arrive early for tickets and parking. Have dinner at a well-reviewed Panaji restaurant around 8:00 pm, approximately ₹400–700 per person, then return to Anjuna.

Morning — Anjuna to Old Goa

Leave Secrets by Aloha Goa around 7:30 am and take NH 66 towards Old Goa; allow 45–60 minutes, with extra time for morning traffic near Panaji. Park in the designated parking area near the heritage precinct rather than along the church approach roads. Start at the Basilica of Bom Jesus (8:30–9:30 am), then walk across to Sé Cathedral (9:30–10:15 am). Keep shoulders and knees covered inside the churches, and avoid visiting during a service. Afterward, have breakfast at Vinayak Family Restaurant (10:15–11:00 am): try poha, idli, plain or masala dosa, an omelette, and tea or coffee. Budget ₹150–350 per person; confirm opening that morning before setting out, as post-monsoon hours can vary.

Afternoon — Fontainhas and lunch

Drive to Fontainhas in central Panaji, about 20–25 minutes, and use paid parking near the Latin Quarter; the lanes themselves are best explored on foot. From noon to 1:15 pm, wander around Rua 31 de Janeiro, St Sebastian Chapel, and the colorful Portuguese-era houses, keeping the visit gentle for your father and allowing time for photographs. Have lunch at Viva Panjim from 1:15–2:30 pm. Good choices include Goan fish thali, pork vindaloo, chicken xacuti, prawn curry-rice, and a vegetarian Goan preparation; expect roughly ₹400–700 per person. Tables are limited, so arriving early is sensible. After lunch, take a relaxed break in the shaded lanes or at the Mandovi riverfront rather than adding another museum.

Evening — Mandovi cruise and return to Anjuna

Reach the Goa Tourism River Cruise boarding area around 4:30 pm, allowing time for parking and tickets; the usual evening sailing is around 5:00–6:00 pm, but confirm the exact sailing and fare locally because September weather may alter operations. The cruise is an easy family activity, with views of Panaji, the Mandovi River, and the sunset; carry a light rain layer and avoid the outer deck if the river becomes choppy. For dinner around 8:00 pm, choose one of these well-regarded Panaji options within your budget: Kava for Goan and Indian dishes, The Fisherman’s Wharf for seafood, Ritz Classic for fish thali and Indo-Chinese food, Mum’s Kitchen for traditional Goan cooking, or Gourmet Garage for pizzas, burgers, and child-friendly plates. Try fish thali, prawn balchão, chicken cafreal, crab xec-xec, or a wood-fired pizza, generally ₹400–700 per person. Leave Panaji by about 9:00 pm via NH 66 and the Mapusa–Anjuna Road; the return to Anjuna usually takes 45–60 minutes, so you should be back before 10:30 pm.

Day 6 · Fri, Oct 2
Anjuna, Goa

Anjuna, Baga watersports and casino evening

Getting there from Panaji, Goa
Drive via NH 66/Mapusa–Anjuna Road (45–60 minutes, approximately ₹300–500 fuel/tolls). Return early, around 6:45–7:00 am, to reach the Anjuna Flea Market for its 8:00 am opening; allow extra time for market-day traffic and parking.
GoaMiles or a pre-booked taxi (1–1.25 hours, approximately ₹900–1,500). Pre-book the return, as app availability can be slower later in the day.
  1. Anjuna Flea Market — Anjuna; browse Goa’s iconic stalls for crafts, clothing, souvenirs and snacks, 8:00–10:30 am.
  2. Eva Café — Anjuna; sea-view breakfast with eggs, pancakes, granola, sandwiches, coffee and juices, 10:30–11:30 am, approximately ₹300–600 per person.
  3. Vagator Beach and Chapora Fort — Vagator; combine a beach stop with the fort’s famous viewpoint, 12:00–2:00 pm.
  4. Go With the Flow — Assagao; relaxed lunch with salads, curries, seafood and vegetarian dishes, 2:15–3:30 pm, approximately ₹500–700 per person.
  5. Baga Beach watersports — Baga; choose a regulated operator for a family-suitable activity such as banana boat or bumper ride, subject to weather and age restrictions, 4:00–5:30 pm.
  6. Deltin Royale — Mandovi River, Panaji; casino experience with valid ID, dress-code compliance and responsible spending, approximately 7:30–10:00 pm. Have dinner onboard or nearby; allow roughly ₹700+ per person depending on entry and package.

Morning

Leave Secrets by Aloha Goa around 6:45–7:00 am and drive via NH 66 and the Mapusa–Anjuna Road to the Anjuna Flea Market. It is best to arrive close to 8:00 am, before the lanes become crowded and parking becomes difficult. Use the paid parking areas near the market rather than leaving the car on the roadside. Spend about two hours browsing handicrafts, beachwear, spices, jewellery and souvenirs; carry small notes and bargain politely. Since this is a Friday, confirm the market is operating—the larger weekly flea market is traditionally held on Wednesdays, while smaller pop-up stalls may vary by season.

Walk or take the car a short distance to Eva Café for breakfast around 10:30 am. Try the eggs, pancakes, granola bowl, sandwiches, fresh juice and coffee; allow roughly ₹300–600 per person. The sea view is lovely, but service can be leisurely, so leave by 11:30 am. Drive about 15 minutes to Vagator Beach, then continue uphill to Chapora Fort. Park below the fort and walk up carefully—the stones can be slippery after rain. Enjoy the viewpoint over the Chapora River and coastline, then return to the beach for a brief, shaded stop. Avoid swimming if the red flag is out or the surf is strong.

Afternoon and watersports

Continue for roughly 20 minutes to Go With the Flow in Assagao, aiming for lunch at 2:15 pm. This is a comfortable family stop after the morning heat; suitable choices include salads, Goan or vegetarian curries, seafood, rice dishes and refreshing drinks. Budget ₹500–700 per person, and call ahead to confirm the kitchen’s afternoon hours. After lunch, drive approximately 25–30 minutes to Baga Beach, arriving around 4:00 pm. Choose only a beach-authorised operator with life jackets and a clearly displayed price list. For your family, a banana boat or bumper ride is more suitable than high-speed parasailing; your father may prefer watching from the sand, and the operator should confirm the 10-year-old’s eligibility. Keep valuables in the car only if securely concealed, and stop immediately if weather or sea conditions deteriorate.

Evening

Leave Baga Beach by about 5:30 pm and drive 45–60 minutes to Deltin Royale on the Mandovi River in Panaji. Carry original government photo ID for adults and check the current entry package, dress code and boarding time before leaving Anjuna; casino access is for adults only, so arrange supervision for your son and do not leave him unattended. Have dinner onboard if included in your package, or eat before boarding nearby; expect the casino experience to exceed the usual ₹700-per-person meal budget once entry and gaming are added. Set a fixed entertainment limit, avoid driving after drinking, and leave by 10:00 pm for the return drive to Anjuna. A pre-booked taxi is safer after the casino; if self-driving, use NH 66, expect about an hour, and keep the route saved offline.

Day 7 · Sat, Oct 3
Anjuna, Goa

Anjuna morning and departure from Madgaon

  1. Anjuna → Madgaon Railway Station — via NH 66, approximately 1.5–2 hours; depart by 8:00 am for a 12:00 pm train, allowing time for fuel, traffic and car return.
  2. Maka Maka — Anjuna; quick breakfast with South Indian items, eggs, sandwiches, coffee and juice before departure, 8:00–8:45 am, approximately ₹200–500 per person.
  3. Margao Municipal Market — Margao; if arriving early, make a brief final stop for local produce, sweets and souvenirs, 10:30–11:00 am; park only where permitted.
  4. Car return and station arrival — Madgaon Railway Station; refuel, complete the rental handover and reach the platform by 11:15 am for the 12:00 pm departure.

Morning — Breakfast and departure from Anjuna

Check out of Secrets by Aloha Goa after settling the bill and inspecting the rental car at around 7:30–7:45 am. Before leaving, have a quick breakfast at Maka Maka in Anjuna from approximately 8:00–8:45 am. Good choices include the masala omelette, eggs on toast, breakfast sandwich, South Indian breakfast plate and a coffee or fresh juice; expect roughly ₹200–500 per person. Keep the meal short, as the drive to Madgaon is usually 1½–2 hours via Mapusa–Anjuna Road and NH 66, but September traffic, roadworks and rain can add time. Refuel before joining NH 66, and keep the car’s fuel level and rental documents ready for handover.

Late morning — Final stop at Margao Municipal Market

Drive south through Ponda or NH 66, depending on live navigation and traffic, and aim to reach Margao Municipal Market around 10:30 am. This is a useful final Goa stop rather than a sightseeing detour: spend about 20–30 minutes browsing the produce stalls, spice counters, cashew displays, local sweets and small souvenir shops. Look for bebinca, dodol, roasted cashews, kokum syrup and packets of local spices. The market can be busy and parking immediately outside is limited, so use a legal paid space nearby and keep one family member with the luggage; do not leave valuables visible in the car. If the train is punctuality-sensitive, skip extended shopping and leave by 11:00 am.

Departure — Madgaon Railway Station

From Margao Municipal Market, allow around 10–15 minutes to reach Madgaon Railway Station, depending on traffic. Complete the rental-car return and refuelling before entering the station area; most self-drive companies will need the vehicle inspection, odometer reading and key handover, so keep at least 45 minutes for this process. Aim to be at the station by 11:15 am for your 12:00 pm train, allowing time to locate the platform, use the facilities and load luggage. Confirm the exact rental-return point with the company in advance, since station access and parking arrangements can vary.
