Explore the Samaria Gorge National Park, a 16 km long canyon that includes Europe’s longest gorge. The hike takes around 4-6 hours to complete and offers stunning views of the White Mountains. The park is only open from May to October and has limited entry, so it's best to start early.

Public transportation is available to reach some of these destinations. Buses and taxis are the most common modes of transportation. Prices are reasonable, but schedules may be limited. It's recommended to hire a car for convenience and freedom of movement. Prices range from 20 to 50 EUR per day and can be rented from the airport or in the city center.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Arkadi Monastery, the Balos Beach and Lagoon, and the Knossos Palace. For those who want to get away from the crowds, Falassarna Beach is a good option. If you have less time, consider skipping the Rethymnon Day Trip and Thermes Beach.
The main airport in Chania is the Chania International Airport (CHQ). It’s located around 14 km from the city center and serves both domestic and international flights. The airport has a good selection of food and beverage outlets, souvenir shops, car rentals, and taxis.
