Four-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for North Sikkim in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Lachen and Gurudongmar Lake
    3 hours (43 miles) from Gangtok

    In the morning, head to Lachen, a picturesque town surrounded by snow-capped mountains and lush greenery. Visit the Lachen Monastery, known for its ancient Buddhist manuscripts and vibrant prayer flags. Have lunch at a local restaurant and then drive to Gurudongmar Lake, a pristine lake believed to have healing powers. The lake is surrounded by snow-covered peaks and offers breathtaking views. Spend some time here before returning to Lachen for dinner.

  2. Day 2: Yumthang Valley and Zero Point
    2 hours (22 miles) from Lachen

    After breakfast, head to Yumthang Valley, also called the Valley of Flowers. The valley is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and is a haven for nature lovers. Enjoy a picnic lunch in this picturesque setting before heading to Zero Point. Zero Point is the last outpost of civilization in North Sikkim and offers a panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks. Return to Lachen for dinner.

  3. Day 3: Lachung and Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary
    1.5 hours (22 miles) from Lachen

    After breakfast, drive to Lachung, a charming town nestled in the Himalayas. Visit the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, which is home to over 40 species of rhododendrons. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the sanctuary and marvel at the vibrant colors of the flowers. Have lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the Lachung Monastery, which dates back to the 18th century. Return to Lachung for dinner.

  4. Day 4: Gangtok and Rumtek Monastery
    4.5 hours (68 miles) from Lachung

    After breakfast, drive to Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim. Visit the Rumtek Monastery, one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in Sikkim. The monastery is known for its stunning architecture and beautiful murals. Have lunch at a local restaurant and then visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, which houses an impressive collection of Tibetan artifacts and manuscripts. In the evening, visit the MG Road and indulge in some shopping and local cuisine. Return to your hotel in Gangtok.

If you have an extra day, you can consider visiting the Tsomgo Lake, which is a beautiful glacial lake located 2 hours from Gangtok. You can also consider taking a helicopter ride over the Himalayas for some stunning aerial views. Do not forget to try the local delicacies such as momos, thukpa, and chhang.
