  4. Yana village and forest lanes — Yana Village; take a relaxed walk through the rural settlement and shaded countryside, mid-afternoon, ~1 hour.

Late Morning–Early Afternoon

Leave after 11:40 AM for Yana Rocks, when the morning crowds have usually thinned. From the village-side parking area, expect a short walk followed by forest paths leading to the dramatic black limestone monoliths, especially Bhairaveshwara Shikhara and Mohini Shikhara. Allow about two hours, wear shoes with good grip, and carry water—the laterite-and-forest trail can be slippery in September, particularly after rain. There is generally no substantial entry facility or reliable food stall at the rocks, so bring essentials and avoid climbing beyond marked or naturally safe viewpoints.

Continue on foot to the Yana Caves, tucked beneath the rock formations, for roughly 45 minutes. The cave area is uneven, dim, and sometimes damp, so a phone torch is useful, although it is best not to rely on one alone. Afterward, have an early lunch at a simple local vegetarian eatery around Yana Village; expect rice, sambar, vegetable curries, bhaji, and sometimes neer dosa or chapati. Budget approximately ₹150–₹350 per person, and keep in mind that many small places serve lunch only until around 2:30–3:00 PM, with cash preferred.

Afternoon and Evening

Spend the mid-afternoon wandering through Yana village and forest lanes, where the pace is much quieter than at the rock formations. Follow the shaded roads past areca-nut gardens, small homes, and patches of countryside for about an hour, but return before dusk because lighting and mobile coverage can be patchy. Finish with dinner at your Hotel Restaurant, ideally around 7:30–8:00 PM, choosing local South Indian dishes such as rice meals, dosa, vegetable curry, or a seasonal preparation. Allow an hour and budget roughly ₹250–₹600 per person; confirm dinner service earlier in the day, as smaller properties may close the kitchen relatively early.
