Start with a relaxed breakfast at Dongguan Kande International Hotel—allow roughly ¥30–60 per person if breakfast is not included—then head out toward Dongguan Civic Center, only about 10 minutes on foot via Hongfu Road. The spacious plaza and civic buildings are best before the afternoon heat, when the area is relatively quiet and good for photographs; allow about an hour. From there, continue along the Dongguan Exhibition International Hotel area and the surrounding Hongfu Road CBD for another hour, dipping into cafés or air-conditioned lobbies when needed. The district is most interesting as an urban walk rather than a formal attraction: broad avenues, modern office towers, landscaped corners, and plenty of local workers moving between shops.
Return toward Yuanmei Park, approximately 500 metres from the hotel, for a slower walk around its ponds, paths, and planted gardens; plan about 1½ hours and bring water, especially in September. Then spend the afternoon at Huiyicheng Shopping Mall, around 300 metres from the hotel, where you can browse shops and settle into the food court or a sit-down restaurant for lunch—budget roughly ¥60–150 per person. Most mall shops generally operate into the evening, but individual restaurants vary, so this is a flexible stop if the weather turns wet. After a rest at the hotel, finish at Dongguan Bar Street in the Nancheng CBD, an easy walk from the same Hongfu Road area; expect about ¥50–120 per person for a drink or dessert. Go after 7:30 PM when the atmosphere livens up, and return to Dongguan Kande International Hotel on foot; the nearby Civic Center metro station, about 120 metres from the hotel, is a useful backup if rain or fatigue makes walking less appealing.
