Positano Six-Hour Visit

Morning — Waterfront and Santa Maria Assunta

Begin at Spiaggia Grande, Positano’s main waterfront, where the pastel houses climb dramatically up the hillside behind the beach. Allow about 45 minutes to enjoy the harbor views, watch the small boats come and go, and take photographs before the beach becomes busier. From here, walk straight to Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, immediately beside the beach, for its famous green-and-yellow majolica dome and Byzantine-style Madonna. Entry is generally free, though modest clothing is expected; allow around 30 minutes. If arriving by ferry, you are already at the correct waterfront landing. If coming by bus or car, avoid driving into central Positano—parking is scarce and expensive, often around €5–8 per hour.

Late Morning — Aperitivo and the Historic Lanes

Climb gradually from the beach toward Le Sirenuse, one of Positano’s most atmospheric places for a short café stop or aperitivo overlooking the coast. Budget approximately €15–30 per person, and check same-day opening hours or reserve if you want a terrace table, since seating is limited and service can be leisurely. From there, continue into Via dei Mulini, the pedestrian heart of the town, allowing about an hour to browse linen shops, ceramics, sandals, and small galleries. The lane is steep in places, so comfortable shoes are essential; keep some cash for smaller boutiques, and don’t rush—the best views often appear down side stairways.

Afternoon — Nocelle and the Coastline Panorama

For the final stretch, take the local bus from Positano toward Nocelle—typically 20–30 minutes depending on traffic—or use a taxi if your six-hour window is tight. From the Path of the Gods trailhead area, follow a short section of the viewpoint paths rather than attempting the full hike; allow roughly 1½ hours including the transfer. The terraces above Nocelle offer extraordinary views back along the Amalfi Coast, but bring water and sun protection, as shade is limited and the pavement can be uneven. Check the return bus timetable before setting out, and leave Nocelle with at least 45–60 minutes remaining if you must catch a ferry or onward connection from Positano.
