4-Day Itinerary for Meghalaya in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Shillong
    30 minutes (9.5 km) from Umroi Airport

    In the morning, visit the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures, which has a rich collection of tribal artifacts and is a great place to learn about the various tribes of the Northeast. For the afternoon, explore the picturesque Ward's Lake, nestled in the heart of the city, and take a boat ride. In the evening, head to the Shillong Peak, which offers breathtaking views of the city below.

  2. Day 2: Cherrapunjee
    1 hour 20 minutes (54.5 km) from Shillong

    In the morning, visit the Seven Sisters Falls, which offers stunning views of seven waterfalls cascading down the limestone cliffs. For the afternoon, take a guided tour of the Mawsmai Cave, which is filled with stalagmites and stalactites. In the evening, visit the Nohkalikai Falls, which is the highest plunge waterfall in India.

  3. Day 3: Dawki
    2 hours 10 minutes (81.7 km) from Cherrapunjee

    In the morning, head to Mawlynnong, which is known as the cleanest village in Asia. Take a guided tour of the village and visit the living root bridge, which is made entirely of roots of a banyan tree. For the afternoon, visit the Dawki River and take a boat ride on the crystal-clear waters, which is a surreal experience. In the evening, head to the Indo-Bangladesh border, which is a stone's throw away from Dawki.

  4. Day 4: Umiam Lake
    2 hours (73.8 km) from Dawki

    In the morning, visit the Elephant Falls, which is a three-tiered waterfall and is a sight to behold. For the afternoon, head to the Umiam Lake, which is a man-made lake surrounded by hills and offers various water sports activities like kayaking, boating, and water skiing. In the evening, visit the Lum Sohpetbneng peak, which is considered a sacred place by the Khasi tribe.
