3-Day "Nature" Itinerary for Hampi in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Matanga Hill
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Hampi Bazaar

    Matanga Hill is the perfect place to start your nature-themed trip. Wake up early to begin your trek before the heat of the day sets in. The climb will take you about an hour, but the scenic views at the top are worth it. Take in the sunrise, and don't forget your camera. After the trek, head back to Hampi Bazaar for breakfast at Mango Tree. This iconic restaurant is known for its delicious South Indian cuisine and has a beautiful view of the Virupaksha Temple. Spend the afternoon exploring the temple and the surrounding Hampi Bazaar. In the evening, take a sunset cruise on the Tungabhadra River.

  2. Day 2: Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary
    1 hour 20 minutes (31.3 km) from Hampi Bazaar

    Start your day early and head to the Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary, which is home to over 120 sloth bears. Take a guided jeep safari through the forest to spot these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. The sanctuary is also home to other wild animals, such as leopards, jackals, and Indian pangolins. After the safari, head back to Hampi for lunch at Laughing Buddha. This cozy restaurant serves some of the best Tibetan food in the area. Spend the afternoon exploring the Anegundi village, which is known for its beautiful landscapes and ancient temples. In the evening, watch the sunset from the Anjanadri hill, which is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman.

  3. Day 3: Virupaksha Temple and Hampi's Waterfalls
    5 minutes (450 m) from Hampi Bazaar

    Start your day at the Virupaksha Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the most important temples in Hampi. Explore the temple's intricate carvings and ancient architecture. After the temple visit, head to the nearby Sanapur Lake for a refreshing swim. This lake is surrounded by beautiful boulders and is perfect for a picnic. In the afternoon, head to the nearby waterfalls. The Jogimatti waterfalls and the Kaneri waterfalls are both worth a visit. Spend the rest of the day enjoying the waterfalls before heading back to Hampi for dinner at the Chillout Corner. This restaurant serves a variety of cuisines, including Israeli, Italian, and Indian.
