Entry arrangements and access can vary, so check locally before setting out. Then begin the climb on the Nelliyampathy hairpin-bend road. The winding ascent takes roughly 1–1½ hours with brief stops; go slowly, use the designated pull-offs rather than stopping on bends, and expect slippery patches or mist after September rain. A car with a confident driver is the easiest way up.
Continue to Seetharkundu Viewpoint for about an hour—the valley outlook is often clearest before afternoon cloud builds, though visibility is weather-dependent. Afterward, stop for lunch at a local Kerala-meals restaurant near the hill settlement. Choices and hours can be limited, so ask your driver or accommodation what is serving that day; budget about ₹150–₹350 per person and carry some cash. Don’t count on finding a late lunch if you arrive well into the afternoon.
Head to Kesavanpara Viewpoint for another hour of hill-and-plains scenery, then wind down with a relaxed walk along publicly accessible roads around the Nelliyampathy tea-estate surroundings. Stay on open roads, respect estate signs and workers’ privacy, and turn back before dusk; the road is narrow and wildlife may be about. There isn’t a dependable public transport connection between these stops, so arrange a vehicle for the day, and keep a light jacket handy for the cooler, damp evening air.
