Since it’s already about 1:40 pm, head straight to Sri Sharadamba Temple and check the current darshan hours at the entrance; temples here may pause during the midday break and reopen later. If the doors are closed, use the interval for lunch nearby, then return when worship resumes. Leave footwear at the designated stand, dress modestly, and allow about an hour for darshan and a look around the peaceful riverside setting.
Next, visit Vidyashankara Temple, right beside the main temple. Give its intricately carved stonework and distinctive Hoysala-Dravidian design around 45 minutes; check locally for access arrangements, as timings can differ from the main shrine. Then stroll toward the Tunga River and Sringeri bridge for a quiet half-hour by the water. The light is gentler later in the day, and the temple complex is easy to explore on foot.
For dinner, choose a simple vegetarian restaurant near the temple complex—ask your hotel or a shopkeeper which kitchen is serving that evening, since hours and options can be limited in this small town. Budget roughly ₹150–₹350 per person for a South Indian meal. Keep some cash handy, and don’t leave the riverside walk too late: evenings are calm, but there’s little reason to linger away from the lit temple area after dark.
From Kangra–Gaggal Airport, allow roughly 45–60 minutes by taxi to Dharamshala, and longer to McLeod Ganj; traffic and winding uphill roads can add time. Check in and leave bags before heading uphill. This is a long flight-and-transfer day, so keep expectations flexible: if you reach McLeod Ganj with enough daylight, start with the Dalai Lama Temple Complex (Tsuglagkhang). Allow about an hour; visitor access is generally during daytime, but check locally for closures or restrictions related to teachings, and dress respectfully.
From the temple complex, stroll through the McLeod Ganj market for Tibetan crafts, prayer flags and small shops—45 minutes is enough for a relaxed browse. Then settle in for momos or thukpa at Tibet Kitchen, a popular, easygoing choice nearby; budget around ₹250–₹600 per person and allow about an hour. If your flight connections mean you arrive late, don’t rush the temple visit or count on all three stops before closing: check in first and ask your hotel what is still open.
The Dharamshala-to-Sringeri return is a separate journey, not a same-day trip after arrival. Arrange at least 2–3 days for the ground transfer and flights—typically returning from Kangra–Gaggal Airport via Delhi and Mangaluru, then continuing by road to Sringeri. Confirm flight connections before booking the airport taxi, and don’t plan to set off for Sringeri tonight.
