Set aside an hour for the restored palace rooms and the story of Kannur’s Arakkal royal family; check the posted hours at the entrance, as museum schedules can vary.
Head to MVK Restaurant in Thavakkara for a Kerala-style lunch. A meal is usually around ₹150–₹350 per person, and a filling local thali is a good choice. The ride from Ayikkara is typically about 15–20 minutes by auto or cab; leave a little slack for midday traffic.
After lunch, make your way to Kannur Lighthouse, near Payyambalam. The lighthouse is not always open for climbing, so check locally before counting on access; even when it’s closed, the coastal setting is worth a short stop. Then stroll over to Payyambalam Beach for the day’s easiest finish. Aim to arrive before sunset, when the light softens and the broad shoreline fills with local walkers; swimming isn’t advisable unless conditions are clearly safe. A cab or auto can connect the lighthouse and beach in a few minutes, or you can walk between them.
