Start early at Sagar Ratna in Katra for a light breakfast; allow 30–60 minutes and budget about ₹300–600 per person. Check its opening time the evening before, as early service can vary. Before joining the route, make sure everyone has the required Yatra Registration Slip/RFID access and a valid photo ID; follow the Shrine Board’s current instructions for registration and checkposts. Carry water, a warm layer for the November chill, and only a small daypack.
From Katra, walk to Banganga, the traditional start of the ascent, and allow roughly two hours including the checkpost and short breaks. Continue steadily to Charan Paduka for a brief shrine visit, then on toward Ardhkuwari Cave Temple—the midway stop, where queues can add an hour or more. Keep snacks and water handy, and don’t rush the climb; the route is demanding, especially if you’re not used to uphill walking.
At Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan, allow 2–4 hours for darshan depending on the queue, and take a proper rest before continuing uphill to Bhairon Temple. The Bhairon visit typically takes 1–2 hours, including the climb and any waiting. From there, return toward the Bhawan and onward to Katra on foot, or use the Bhawan–Bhairon ropeway if it is operating and suitable for your group; check service status and closing times locally rather than relying on it for the whole return. This is a long day, so keep several hours for the descent to Katra and plan for a late finish.
