Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.
Leave Tezpur before dawn for the drive via Bhalukpong and Rupa. Allow roughly 5–6 hours each way in good conditions, plus time for check-post formalities, road stops and any delays; the mountain road can be slow, so confirm conditions locally before setting out. Arrange the required Arunachal Pradesh entry permit in advance (requirements differ by nationality), and carry identification and snacks. This is a long drive, not a realistic same-day round trip with sightseeing.
On arrival, spend about 1.5 hours exploring Shergaon village at an unhurried, respectful pace. Look out for its traditional architecture and village lanes, and ask before photographing residents or entering private property. Then allow around 45 minutes at Shergaon Monastery; access and visitor customs can vary, so check locally, dress modestly and keep noise low. For lunch, choose a local Shergaon eatery and allow about an hour for regional dishes; budget roughly ₹200–₹500 per person, with menus and opening times varying.
Stay overnight near Shergaon rather than attempting the return drive today. The itinerary’s listed Tezpur return is best made the following day: set off early, retrace the route via Rupa and Bhalukpong, and allow another 5–6 hours or more, including check-post and road-stop time. Confirm your transport and road conditions before departure; don’t plan a late arrival in Tezpur.
