2-Day, 3-Night Ahmedabad to Mount Abu Trip

Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.

Day 1
Mount Abu

Mount Abu

  1. Ahmedabad–Mount Abu drive — Leave before dawn for the roughly 5–6-hour drive; allow extra time for traffic, breaks, and parking on arrival. A Mount Abu visit with a same-day return to Ahmedabad makes for a very long day; an overnight stay is strongly recommended.
  2. Dilwara Temples — Dilwara, Mount Abu; allow about 1–1.5 hours to admire the intricate marble temples, checking current visitor access and any entry requirements before setting out.
  3. Nakki Lake — Central Mount Abu; spend about an hour by the lake, with time for a short boat ride if operating and conditions allow.
  4. A local restaurant near Nakki Lake — Central Mount Abu; take a quick meal break, roughly 45–60 minutes (about ₹300–700 per person).
  5. Mount Abu–Ahmedabad drive — Depart Mount Abu early afternoon for the roughly 5–6-hour return, plus breaks and arrival traffic. This leaves little sightseeing time; stay overnight in Mount Abu for a more realistic visit.

Before dawn & arrival

Leave Ahmedabad before dawn for the roughly 5–6-hour drive to Mount Abu, usually via Himmatnagar and Abu Road. Allow extra time for a breakfast stop, traffic and the winding final climb; park at your hotel or a town car park rather than trying to drive between every stop. A key timing wrinkle: visitor access at Dilwara Temples is commonly limited to around midday through late afternoon for non-Jain visitors, while worshippers may have different access. Check the current rules before setting out, and plan to wait until the visitor window if you arrive early. Allow 1–1½ hours inside; shoes must be removed and photography is generally not permitted.

Afternoon by the lake

From Dilwara Temples, drive about 15–20 minutes to Nakki Lake for a relaxed hour by the water. A short boat ride may be available, depending on operating hours and conditions; check locally before counting on it. Then take your meal break at Mulberry Tree Restaurant or another local restaurant near the lake—allow 45–60 minutes and roughly ₹300–700 per person. The lakeside is pleasant for a short wander, but keep an eye on the clock if you’re driving back the same day.

Return to Ahmedabad

A same-day return makes this a very long outing: after the temples, lake and meal, you’re unlikely to leave Mount Abu until mid- or late afternoon, followed by another 5–6 hours on the road plus breaks and arrival traffic. That means getting back to Ahmedabad late in the evening, not early afternoon. I’d strongly recommend staying overnight in Mount Abu; if you must return today, set off as soon as lunch is finished and avoid adding extra stops on the way.

Day 2
Mount Abu

Mount Abu

  1. Achalgarh Fort (Achalgarh) — Explore the old fort and the nearby temple complex for a quieter slice of Mount Abu’s history — morning, ~1.5 hours.
  2. Guru Shikhar (north of Mount Abu) — Climb to the highest point in the Aravalli Range for broad hill-country views — late morning, ~1.5 hours.
  3. Trevor’s Tank (south of town) — Take an easy nature walk around the reservoir and look out for birds — afternoon, ~1.5 hours.
  4. Honeymoon Point (west of town) — Finish with a short walk and sunset views over the hills — late afternoon, ~1 hour.

Morning

You’re already in Mount Abu, so make this a relaxed loop rather than another travel day. Hire a local taxi for the morning to reach Achalgarh Fort, then continue to Guru Shikhar; allow roughly 3–4 hours for both stops and the winding road between them. The fort is atmospheric but uneven underfoot, so wear shoes with grip and bring water.

Afternoon and sunset

Return toward town for lunch, then take a taxi to Trevor’s Tank for a quiet walk by the water. Entry arrangements and access can vary, so check locally before setting out; carry a little cash for any entry fee. A private taxi for this half-day outing will cost more than shared transport, so agree on the waiting time and fare before you leave.

Head back toward town and walk out to Honeymoon Point for sunset. Keep a torch or phone light handy for the return walk, and leave time for dinner nearby; a simple meal generally runs about ₹200–500 per person.
