Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.
Start at Mahalaxmi Temple in Altinho; allow about 45 minutes for darshan, and dress modestly and leave footwear outside. Temple timings can vary around पूजा and festivals, so check locally before setting out. From there, take a taxi or auto-rickshaw downhill to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church at Church Square (roughly 10–15 minutes, traffic permitting). Give the church and its famous staircase about 45 minutes; access to the interior may be limited during services.
Walk or take a short taxi ride to Fontainhas, Panaji’s Latin Quarter, and spend about an hour wandering its narrow lanes and Portuguese-era houses. It’s best explored on foot; go slowly, keep voices low near homes, and ask before photographing residents or entering private courtyards. Then settle in at Viva Panjim, a heritage-house restaurant in Fontainhas, for Goan-Portuguese dishes. Budget around ₹500–₹1,000 per person and allow 1–1½ hours; weekends and busy meal times can mean a wait.
Finish at Maruti Temple in Altinho, a short taxi or auto ride uphill from Fontainhas (around 10–15 minutes). Allow about 45 minutes for a quiet visit and the city views. The climb and steps can be tiring in the midday heat, so carry water; if you’d rather not walk uphill, ask your driver to drop you close to the temple entrance.
Leave Panaji early so you reach Old Goa around opening time; the drive is usually 25–35 minutes, but allow a little extra for traffic and parking. Start at the Basilica of Bom Jesus, giving yourself about an hour for the baroque interior and the tomb of St. Francis Xavier. Continue to Se Cathedral—it’s a short walk away—and allow another hour to explore its vast interior. Churches are generally visited during daytime hours, but access and service times can vary, so check locally before you go.
Walk on to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi and its adjoining museum. Set aside 1–1.5 hours, and check the museum’s current opening hours before setting out. Then drive about 45–60 minutes to Shri Mangueshi Temple in Mangeshi. Allow an hour for your visit; follow posted guidance, dress respectfully, and leave footwear where instructed. From there, continue to Ponda for a relaxed lunch at a local Goan restaurant—budget about ₹400–₹900 per person. Ask your driver for a nearby restaurant serving Goan specialties, as opening hours and menus vary.
A single pre-booked car and driver for the day is the easiest way to link Old Goa, Mangeshi and Ponda; agree on the waiting time and return fare before you leave. This is a full day once you include the temple visit, lunch and roughly 45–60 minutes on the road back toward Panaji. If you have onward travel, leave a generous buffer after lunch for the return drive and any traffic.
