Srirangam's 3-Day Itinerary - June 2023

  1. Day 1: Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

    In the morning, visit the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, one of the largest temples in India dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Walkthrough the seven enclosures and admire the intricate architecture and sculptures. In the afternoon, relish the authentic South Indian lunch at the temple canteen. Later, take a stroll through the Chandra Pushkarani park adjacent to the temple. In the evening, witness the temple's grandeur during the aarti ceremony.

  2. Day 2: Jambukeswarar Akhilandeswari Temple
    Located in Thiruvanaikkaval

    Distance from Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple: 3 miles (15 minutes)

    Start your day by visiting the Jambukeswarar Akhilandeswari Temple, one of the Pancha Bhoota Stalas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is famous for the water stream flowing continuously, and it is believed to have curative properties. In the afternoon, savour the local delicacies at Hotel Kannappa, one of the famous restaurants in Trichy. In the evening, take a heritage walkthrough the Rockfort Ucchi Pillayar Temple and enjoy a breathtaking view of Trichy from the top.

  3. Day 3: Mukkombu Dam and Amma Mandapam Bathing Ghat
    Located in Mukkombu

    Distance from Jambukeswarar Akhilandeswari Temple: 10.3 miles (30 minutes)

    In the morning, visit the Mukkombu Dam, a popular picnic spot built across the Kaveri River. Take a boat ride into the dam and enjoy the scenic beauty of the place. In the afternoon, visit the Amma Mandapam - a bathing ghat, near the Rockfort temple, where the Kaveri River meets the Grand Anicut canal. Take a dip in the holy water and experience the spiritual vibes. In the evening, stroll through the Gandhi Market, where you can buy souvenirs and taste the local street food.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, you can visit the St. Lourdhu Matha Church, which is located in the heart of Trichy. If you want to indulge in nature, you can visit the Puliyancholai Waterfalls, located in the Eastern Ghats. You can also plan a side trip to Thanjavur, which is famous for its Brihadeeswarar Temple and Royal Palace. To make the most of your trip, start your day early and plan your itinerary accordingly. Do carry a water bottle and umbrella during the daytime, and make sure to respect the local customs and traditions.
