Bali Itinerary: Ubud, Seminyak, and Uluwatu

Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.

Day 1
Ubud

Arrive in Ubud

  1. Airport-to-Ubud transfer — Ngurah Rai International Airport to Ubud; allow roughly 1.5–2.5 hours door to door, depending on traffic, then check in and settle in.
  2. Saraswati Temple — central Ubud; admire the lotus pond and temple architecture on an easy first outing, ~30–45 minutes.
  3. Ubud Art Market — central Ubud; browse local crafts if you arrive while the market is open, ~45–60 minutes.
  4. Bridges Bali — Campuhan; enjoy a relaxed dinner overlooking the river, approximately IDR 250,000–500,000 per person.

Arrival and transfer

From Ngurah Rai International Airport to Ubud, allow about 1.5–2.5 hours door to door; congestion around Denpasar can stretch the drive, especially at busy arrival times. A pre-arranged hotel car or reputable private driver is easiest after a flight—confirm the pickup point and price before you travel, and leave time to collect bags and clear the airport. Check in and take a breather before heading out; central Ubud is easiest to explore on foot, though its narrow pavements can be uneven.

Afternoon

Visit Saraswati Temple for 30–45 minutes to admire the lotus pond and carved entrance. The temple grounds are generally viewable from the front, but access to inner areas may be restricted, so dress modestly and follow local signs. Then browse Ubud Art Market for around 45–60 minutes; stalls typically trade during the day, but hours vary, so go while there’s still daylight. It’s fine to compare prices and bargain politely, and carry small rupiah notes.

Evening

Take a short taxi or ride-hail from central Ubud to Bridges Bali in Campuhan—roughly 5–10 minutes, depending on traffic—or walk if you’re comfortable with the steep, dimly lit stretches. Settle in for a river-view dinner; budget approximately IDR 250,000–500,000 per person, and reserve ahead if you want a particular table or are arriving at a busy time. After a travel day, keep the rest of the evening unplanned and arrange a ride back rather than walking the hill in the dark.

Day 2
Ubud

Explore Ubud

  1. Tegallalang Rice Terraces — north of Ubud; take in the stepped landscape in the cooler morning, ~1.5–2 hours.
  2. Locavore NXT — Ubud; make this a leisurely, reservation-dependent lunch, approximately IDR 800,000–1,500,000 per person.
  3. Ubud Palace — central Ubud; see the historic royal compound, ~45 minutes.
  4. Ubud Monkey Forest — southern Ubud; walk its shaded paths and temple grounds, ~1.5–2 hours; keep food and loose belongings secured.

Morning

Leave central Ubud around 7:30–8:00 for Tegallalang Rice Terraces; the drive north usually takes 25–40 minutes, but allow extra time if traffic is building. Go early for cooler walking and softer light, and plan on 1.5–2 hours among the terraces. The main viewpoints and paths generally open in the morning; entry or trail contributions vary, so budget roughly IDR 50,000–100,000 and carry small cash. Some paths are steep, and you may encounter requests for donations along the way.

Lunch

Head back to Locavore NXT in Ubud for a leisurely lunch. It’s a destination meal rather than a casual drop-in, so book ahead and confirm the lunch seating and current menu when reserving; allow about 2–3 hours. Budget around IDR 800,000–1,500,000 per person as a guide, before any extras. A car or hired driver is easiest from Tegallalang; the return drive is often 30–50 minutes, depending on traffic.

Afternoon

After lunch, visit Ubud Palace in the town center for around 45 minutes, then continue south to Ubud Monkey Forest—roughly 10–15 minutes by car, though central traffic can slow things down. The palace grounds are typically open during the day and are usually free to enter; check locally for any restricted areas or event closures. The Monkey Forest generally welcomes visitors from morning to late afternoon, with an admission fee that can change (allow roughly IDR 100,000–150,000). Give yourself 1.5–2 hours on its shaded paths, and keep food, sunglasses, and loose belongings secured around the monkeys.

Day 3
Seminyak

Continue to Seminyak

Getting there from Ubud
Private car with driver (about 1.5–2.5 hours, roughly IDR 400,000–700,000). Arrange through your hotel or book on Klook; leave Ubud in the morning to allow for traffic and reach Seminyak in time for lunch.
  1. Ubud-to-Seminyak transfer — allow roughly 1.5–2.5 hours door to door, including hotel checkout and arrival/check-in logistics; traffic can extend the trip.
  2. Petitenget Temple — Petitenget; visit this seaside temple and its grounds, ~45 minutes.
  3. La Lucciola — Petitenget Beach; have lunch by the shore, approximately IDR 250,000–500,000 per person.
  4. Seminyak Beach — Seminyak; unwind by the water and catch the sunset, ~1.5–2 hours.
  5. Merah Putih — Kerobokan, a short ride inland; finish with Indonesian cuisine in a striking dining room, approximately IDR 300,000–600,000 per person.

Late Morning

Aim to leave Ubud in the morning and allow 1.5–2.5 hours for the transfer, plus time to check in or drop bags in Seminyak. Head to Petitenget Temple for about 45 minutes; access to parts of the grounds can be restricted during ceremonies, so dress modestly and follow local signs and requests. A small donation is customary.

Lunch and Afternoon

Walk over to La Lucciola by Petitenget Beach for a relaxed seaside lunch; budget around IDR 250,000–500,000 per person. Check its current opening hours and reserve ahead, especially if you’re arriving later in the lunch period. Afterward, take a short ride or stroll down the coast to Seminyak Beach and leave 1.5–2 hours to unwind and catch the sunset. Beach vendors may offer loungers and drinks; agree on prices before settling in.

Evening

From the beach, take a short ride inland to Merah Putih in Kerobokan for Indonesian dishes in its dramatic dining room. Budget around IDR 300,000–600,000 per person, and book a table ahead for dinner. Traffic can be slow around sunset, so allow extra time for the ride and reservation.

Day 4
Uluwatu

Discover Uluwatu

Getting there from Seminyak
Private car with driver (about 1.5–2.5 hours, roughly IDR 400,000–700,000). Arrange through your hotel or book on Klook; depart in the morning, as traffic can build and you’ll want time to check in before visiting the beach and temple.
  1. Seminyak-to-Uluwatu transfer — allow roughly 1.5–2.5 hours door to door, including checkout and arrival logistics; leave ample buffer for traffic.
  2. Padang Padang Beach — Pecatu; spend a relaxed stretch at this cove, ~1.5–2 hours, allowing for the steps down and back.
  3. Single Fin — Suluban; stop for a drink and ocean views, approximately IDR 150,000–350,000 per person.
  4. Uluwatu Temple — Pecatu; visit near sunset and allow ~1.5–2 hours, including time for the grounds and possible crowding; check current entry arrangements and book the Kecak performance in advance if you want to attend.
  5. A seafood restaurant in Jimbaran — Jimbaran Bay; enjoy dinner by the water, approximately IDR 200,000–500,000 per person, then allow extra time for the drive back to Uluwatu.

Morning

Leave Seminyak early enough to check out, reach Uluwatu, and drop your bags before the beach stop; the drive can take 1.5–2.5 hours depending on traffic. Head to Padang Padang Beach in Pecatu for a relaxed 1.5–2 hours. There are steps down to the cove, so wear shoes you can manage on stairs and bring cash for the small beach access fee. Arriving before midday generally means less heat and a better chance of finding a spot on the sand.

Afternoon

From Padang Padang, continue by car to Single Fin above Suluban for a drink and the cliffside ocean views; budget around IDR 150,000–350,000 per person, depending on what you order. It’s a good pause before the temple, but don’t linger so long that you miss the sunset window. Then go to Uluwatu Temple near sunset and allow 1.5–2 hours for the grounds and crowds. Check current opening and entry arrangements before you go; wear a sarong or use one provided at the entrance, and keep an eye on loose belongings around the resident monkeys. If you want the Kecak performance, book ahead and confirm its schedule and entry requirements—don’t assume you can get a seat on arrival.

Evening

After the temple, drive to Jimbaran Bay for seafood by the water, then allow extra time for the return drive to Uluwatu. Expect roughly IDR 200,000–500,000 per person, with the final bill depending on the seafood and weight you choose; confirm prices before ordering. Ask your driver to wait or agree on a pickup point and return time in advance, as traffic and post-sunset crowds can make getting a car less straightforward.
