Jagannath Puri Travel Itinerary

Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.

Day 1
Puri, Odisha

Explore Puri

  1. Shree Jagannath Temple — Grand Road/temple district; allow ~2–3 hours for darshan and queues, and check current entry rules in advance—non-Hindus cannot enter the temple.
  2. Narendra Tank — North of the temple; take a calm ~30-minute walk around this historic sacred tank.
  3. Sudarshan Crafts Museum — Station Road area; spend ~1 hour viewing Odisha’s stone and wood-carving traditions.
  4. Wildgrass Restaurant — Near Swargadwar; enjoy an Odia or seafood lunch, about ₹300–700 per person.
  5. Puri Sea Beach — Central beachfront; unwind with a ~1–2-hour walk and sunset, following local lifeguard guidance when near the water.

Morning

Start early at Shree Jagannath Temple in the Grand Road temple district; allow 2–3 hours for security, queues and darshan, which can vary considerably. Check the current entry rules before setting out: non-Hindus are not permitted inside, and rules for belongings and footwear are strict, so ask your hotel where to leave valuables. Afterward, walk north to Narendra Tank for an unhurried half-hour loop around the sacred water and its historic ghats.

Midday

Continue to Sudarshan Crafts Museum in the Station Road area and give yourself about an hour for its stone- and wood-carving displays. Opening hours and weekly closures can change, so confirm before making the trip. Then head south to Wildgrass Restaurant near Swargadwar for an Odia or seafood lunch; budget roughly ₹300–700 per person. Auto-rickshaws are handy between these stops—agree the fare before boarding, or use a metered option if available.

Afternoon & Evening

Take a breather, then spend 1–2 hours strolling Puri Sea Beach and watching the light soften toward sunset. Keep to the areas watched by lifeguards and follow their advice about currents; the sea can be rough even when the shore looks calm. The central beachfront gets busy around sunset, so wander a little beyond the main crowd for a quieter stretch, then return toward Swargadwar for an easy ride back.
