Alvor is a strong choice for your family base: the old centre is compact and easy to wander, with plenty of places to eat, while beaches and outdoor walks are close by. Take an unhurried hour through Alvor Old Town and its lanes, then head towards the waterfront to join the Alvor Boardwalk. Allow around 1–1½ hours for the raised path; it’s an easy, mostly flat stroll, though it can be breezy and sunny, so bring water and hats.
Continue into the Ria de Alvor Nature Reserve for estuary views and a chance to spot wading birds. Keep the route flexible: paths can be exposed, and little legs may prefer a shorter out-and-back rather than a longer circuit. For Praia dos Três Irmãos, walk from the village if everyone still has energy, or take a short taxi or drive and check parking before setting off. Give yourselves about two hours to explore the coves and rock formations; check tide conditions and keep the boys close around the rocks, especially on a rising tide.
Head back to Restaurante Ruccula in Alvor for a relaxed dinner. Budget roughly €20–35 per adult before drinks; booking ahead is sensible during the Easter holidays, and check its current opening days and hours as seasonal schedules can vary. Allow about 1½ hours, then enjoy an easy stroll back through the centre.
