Wagholi to Murudeshwar via Hubballi and NH66

Day 1 · Thu, Nov 12
Wagholi to Murudeshwar via Hubballi and NH66

Travel via Hubballi and the NH66 Route

  1. Wagholi to Hubballi via NH48 (Pune–Satara–Kolhapur–Belagavi) — cover the inland highway leg, with breaks for fuel, meals and rest; allow ~8–10 hours.
  2. Hubballi to Honnavar via NH52 and NH66 — continue south-west from Hubballi toward Ankola, then join NH66 south to Honnavar; allow ~4–5 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.
  3. Honnavar to Murudeshwar via NH66 — finish the coastal leg and check in; allow ~1–1.5 hours, then have dinner near your accommodation.

Early morning to afternoon: Wagholi to Hubballi

Leave Wagholi before dawn for the long drive south-west. Follow the Pune–Bengaluru Highway (NH48) via Satara, Kolhapur and Belagavi to Hubballi. Allow around 8–10 hours for this section, including Pune traffic, food and fuel stops; the exact time depends on your departure and road conditions. Take proper breaks rather than trying to rush the distance.

Afternoon to evening: Hubballi, Honnavar and Murudeshwar

From Hubballi, head toward Ankola and join NH66 south toward Honnavar, then continue on NH66 to Murudeshwar. This coastal portion is roughly 5–6.5 hours altogether, so Wagholi to Murudeshwar is a very long drive—realistically around 14–17 hours including breaks and arrival logistics. Keep Honnavar as a route point, not a detour or overnight stop, unless fatigue or delays make it safer to stop there.

Check in and rest on arrival; don’t count on having time or energy for the temple and statue this evening. Arrange parking and late check-in with your accommodation beforehand. For dinner, choose a nearby restaurant or ask your accommodation what is still serving; budget roughly ₹300–700 per person.

Day 2 · Fri, Nov 13
Murudeshwar

Stay in Murudeshwar

Getting there from Wagholi to Murudeshwar via Hubballi and NH66
Drive via NH48 to Hubballi, then continue toward Yellapur and join NH66 for Murudeshwar (about 10–12 hours, roughly ₹5,000–8,000 for fuel and tolls, excluding car rental). Leave early, around 5–6am, and allow extra time for breaks and traffic. For a rental, compare providers such as Zoomcar or local Pune operators.
  1. Murudeshwar Temple and Raja Gopura (temple precinct) — visit the hilltop temple and take in the coastal views from the tower area; morning, ~1.5–2 hours.
  2. Shiva Statue (temple precinct) — see the landmark statue beside the temple; morning, ~30–45 minutes.
  3. Murudeshwar Beach (temple precinct) — take a relaxed walk along the shore; late afternoon, ~45–60 minutes.

Morning

Keep today local and easy after the long drive yesterday. Visit Murudeshwar Temple and the nearby Raja Gopura in the morning, when it is cooler; allow about 1.5–2 hours, with extra time if there is a queue. Dress modestly for the temple and check any current rules on footwear, photography and access before entering. If you want to go up the tower, confirm locally whether it is open and whether there is an admission charge.

The Shiva Statue is beside the temple, so it fits naturally into the same visit without extra transport. Take your time around the complex rather than trying to pack in another long drive. Breakfast or lunch at a simple local restaurant near the temple should generally be around ₹150–350 per person, depending on what you order.

Late afternoon

Rest during the warmer part of the day, then head to Murudeshwar Beach for a short walk. It is close to the temple precinct and easy to reach on foot from nearby accommodation. Enjoy the shoreline and views, but be cautious around rocks and strong surf; conditions can make swimming unsafe. Keep the evening flexible for dinner nearby and an early night.
