Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.
Aim to reach Satapada Jetty around 9:00 AM. Check lake and sea-mouth conditions with an authorized boat operator before agreeing on the route, duration and total fare; boat prices vary by boat size and season, so confirm whether the quoted amount covers your whole group and any island stop. Ask for life jackets for everyone and carry cash, water, sun protection and a hat. Set aside roughly 2–3 hours for the Chilika Lake dolphin-watching boat trip. Irrawaddy dolphins may appear, but sightings aren’t guaranteed—give them space and avoid operators who chase or crowd them.
If conditions permit and your operator confirms it’s accessible, continue to Rajhans Island for a 45–60-minute shoreline walk and views near the sea mouth. Access can depend on weather, water conditions and local rules, so treat this as an optional stop rather than a sure thing; wear shoes you don’t mind getting sandy and follow your boatman’s guidance. Back near Satapada Jetty, allow about an hour for lunch at a local seafood eatery. Menus and opening times can be informal and seasonal, so ask what’s fresh and confirm the price by weight before ordering; budget roughly ₹300–700 per person, depending on the catch and your order.
Finish with an easy 45-minute walk along the Satapada lakeside, leaving time to enjoy the lagoon views without rushing. There’s little shade by the water, so bring water and plan your stroll for the cooler part of the afternoon. Boat availability and lake conditions can change through the day; check locally before setting out, and keep some flexibility in case the Rajhans Island stop isn’t possible.
