Take an overnight Kochi–Bengaluru train the previous evening if a suitable service is running on your dates; the journey is roughly 11–13 hours, but check the exact train, arrival time and station before booking. With 8 adults and 3 young children, arrange a large vehicle or two taxis in advance rather than splitting up at the station, and allow extra time to collect bags and load everyone. The day’s plan depends on arriving early enough to have breakfast and start sightseeing without rushing.
After arrival, head to MTR on Lalbagh Road for a South Indian breakfast; allow about an hour and budget roughly ₹150–₹350 per person. It can be busy, so expect a possible wait. Then visit Lalbagh Botanical Garden for an easy-paced 1.5–2-hour stroll, with time for the children to rest and snack. Check the current gate hours and entry fee before setting out; comfortable shoes and water are useful, and the garden is large enough that you’ll want to keep the pace relaxed.
Continue to the Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum on Kasturba Road. Allow 1.5–2 hours for the interactive exhibits, and check the museum’s current opening hours, entry arrangements and ticket prices before you go. Traffic between Lalbagh and the museum can vary; allow around 20–40 minutes by car, longer in a busy period. Finish with the Bengaluru–Kochi train from the station printed on your ticket. This same-day return is only practical if your inbound train arrives early and your return train leaves late enough to cover the visits, cross the city and board with a comfortable buffer. If those timings don’t line up, stay overnight in Bengaluru and take the return train the next day.
