Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.
In Raithal, meet your local guide and spend 30–45 minutes checking footwear, warm layers, rain protection, water and snacks. Confirm the day’s weather, trail condition and exact campsite before leaving; cloud and rain can make the route slower. Then follow the uphill Raithal–Gui trail—roughly 5–6 km, usually 4–5 hours with breaks. Keep a steady pace and take small sips of water rather than rushing the climb.
Pause for about 20 minutes in the oak and rhododendron forest above the village, staying on the marked path and following your guide’s lead. After reaching Gui campsite, allow an hour or two to settle in and rest. Drink regularly, keep warm, and tell your guide if you develop a headache, nausea or unusual breathlessness; don’t push on if you feel unwell.
Have a simple hot dinner at Gui campsite and prepare your daypack for an early start toward the meadow tomorrow. Meals and guiding are often included in an organised trek; if dinner isn’t included, budget roughly ₹250–₹500 per person, and confirm the full cost with your homestay or operator in Raithal before setting off.
Leave Gui campsite early with your guide, ideally around first light, for the 2–3-hour climb to Dayara Bugyal. The open meadow is the reward: wander only as far as conditions and your guide recommend, and pause for the Garhwal Himalayan views if the skies are clear. Cloud can roll in quickly, so don’t count on a view, and keep to established paths to protect the grassland.
Take a 30–45-minute picnic break at a sheltered spot on the meadow. Bring a packed breakfast or lunch, water and a warm layer; there are no reliable food stalls up here, so carry everything out, including wrappers and other waste. Check the weather and your energy with your guide before setting off downhill.
Retrace the Gui–Raithal descent trail to Raithal, allowing roughly 3–4 hours and extra time if the path is wet, snowy or slippery. The full day is a demanding outing, so keep a steady pace, take short rests and tell your guide promptly if you feel unwell. Back in the village, have a cooked meal at your homestay or a simple local eatery; budget about ₹250–₹500 per person, and confirm meal availability with your host.
