Start in Scala’s historic center at the Duomo di San Lorenzo and its peaceful piazza; allow about 45 minutes. The cathedral’s hours can vary, so check locally and don’t count on entering if a service or closure is underway. Then walk uphill to Minuta (roughly 15–20 minutes, with steps) for a slow wander through the hamlet and a look at the Church of the Annunciation. Give yourself about an hour there; wear shoes with grip, as the lanes and steps can be uneven.
Continue on foot toward Pontone and the atmospheric ruins of the Basilica di Sant’Eustachio—allow around an hour for the walk and visit, and take care on the stone paths. From there, follow the signed local route into Valle delle Ferriere for a 2–3-hour section among streams, old mills, and dense woodland. Trail conditions and any reserve access rules can change, so check before setting out; sturdy shoes, water, and a light packed lunch are sensible. The paths are steep and uneven, and October daylight is shorter, so turn back with plenty of time rather than trying to cover the whole valley.
Return to Scala for dinner at Ristorante Gli Ulivi. Plan on about 1½ hours and roughly €25–45 per person for local Campanian dishes; check opening days and book ahead, particularly if you want an early table after the hike.
