Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.
Leave Lyman around 11:00 AM via I-26 W toward Hendersonville, then continue through Cedar Mountain; the drive is roughly 1 hour 20 minutes without delays, but Sunday traffic and busy trailhead lots can add time. Use the signed entrances for DuPont State Recreational Forest, and arrive prepared to walk from overflow parking if the main lots are full. There is no dependable public-transit option for this outing, so a car is essential; bring water, sturdy shoes, and a little cash or a card for any parking-related fees.
Spend about 2½–3 hours on the Triple Falls and High Falls area trails, following the marked paths and allowing time for the overlooks. Triple Falls is the more dramatic first stop, while High Falls rewards a slightly longer walk with a broad cascade and riverside scenery. Trails can be slick near the water, and swimming or climbing around the falls is unsafe and generally restricted, so stay behind railings and on signed paths. Afterward, drive into Brevard for an early dinner at The Falls Landing Restaurant, a casual downtown choice for burgers, sandwiches, and American fare; allow about an hour and budget approximately $20–35 per person. Sunday service hours can vary, so check that day’s schedule before leaving the forest.
After dinner, take 30–45 minutes around the grounds of Brevard Music Center and the nearby mountain roads for a relaxed pre-dusk walk and scenic views; access to buildings or event areas may be limited outside performances, so treat this as an exterior stop rather than a guaranteed tour. Depart Brevard around 6:30–7:00 PM via US-276 toward I-26 E, returning to Lyman in roughly 1½ hours. Refuel before leaving town, and expect possible evening slowdowns near Spartanburg; if you want a break, stop before joining I-26 rather than counting on services late along the route.
