Cultural Immersion Itinerary in Hampi for August 2023

  1. Day 1: Hampi Bazaar
    5 minutes (0.4 km) from Hosapete Junction Railway Station

    Morning: Start your day by exploring Hampi Bazaar. As you walk through the lively street, you will see shops selling beautiful handicrafts, traditional clothing, and souvenirs. Take in the vibrant atmosphere and interact with the locals to learn more about their culture. Afternoon: Visit the famous Virupaksha Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is an excellent example of the Vijayanagara style of architecture. Evening: Watch the sunset from the Hemakuta Hill. The view of the ruins and the surrounding landscape is breathtaking.

  2. Day 2: Badami
    2 hours 20 minutes (104 km) from Hampi

    Morning: Head to Badami, known for its magnificent rock-cut temples. Visit the four main temples: Cave 1, 2, and 3 dedicated to Lord Shiva and Cave 4 dedicated to Lord Vishnu. These temples are excellent examples of ancient Indian rock-cut architecture. Afternoon: Take a break from temple hopping and have lunch at one of the local restaurants. Try the traditional Badami delicacy - Bisi Bele Bath. Evening: Explore the Badami Fort, situated on top of a hill overlooking the town. The fort dates back to the 6th century and offers a spectacular view of the surrounding hills and the town below.

  3. Day 3: Anegundi
    30 minutes (17 km) from Hampi

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to Anjanadri Hill, believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. The hill offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area and is a great spot for nature lovers. Afternoon: Visit the Anegundi Village, a quaint little village that is known for its rich history and culture. Take a walk around the village and interact with the locals to learn more about their way of life. Evening: Head to the Sanapur Lake, a serene and beautiful lake located just outside Anegundi. Take a dip in the cool water and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, then visit the Tungabhadra Dam, located about 16 km from Hampi. The dam offers spectacular views of the surrounding hills and is a great spot for picnics and boating. You can also take a side trip to the Daroji Bear Sanctuary, located about 30 km from Hampi. The sanctuary is home to the Indian Sloth Bear, and you can take a jeep safari to see them in the wild. To maximize your fun, try renting a bicycle or a moped to explore Hampi and its surroundings. You can also try the local cuisine, which includes dishes like Bisi Bele Bath, Jolada Roti, and Ennegai.
