Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.
Leave Ibis Istanbul Şişli around 8:00 AM by taxi or private car, allowing roughly 35–60 minutes to reach Sultanahmet via the Golden Horn. Traffic can be heavy, so ask to be dropped near a central Sultanahmet parking garage rather than attempting to drive between monuments; the historic core is largely best explored on foot. Start at Hagia Sophia, allowing about 1.5 hours plus security and possible entry queues. Visitor access, ticketing, and interior sections can change, so check the current rules and reserve a timed entry if required. Walk a few minutes to the Blue Mosque, where the courtyard and interior usually take around 45 minutes. Dress modestly, and expect visitor access to pause during prayer times; women may need a head covering, and shoes are removed inside.
Continue on foot toward Topkapı Palace, allowing 2.5–3 hours for the courtyards, imperial collections, and especially the Harem. Buy tickets in advance if possible, as the Harem requires its own admission and queues become longer later in the morning. For lunch, eat at Matbah Ottoman Palace Cuisine, conveniently located near the palace. Allow about an hour and roughly €20–35 per person; it is a good choice for Ottoman-style dishes without losing time crossing the district.
After lunch, visit the Basilica Cistern, a short walk away. Its atmospheric columns and Medusa-head bases make it one of the most memorable stops, and 45–60 minutes is usually enough. If the entrance queue is long, advance tickets are worthwhile. Then walk downhill toward the Spice Bazaar in Eminönü, browsing lokum, dried fruit, spices, tea, and Turkish coffee. Finish with a relaxed walk along the Eminönü waterfront for Golden Horn views and the changing evening light; keep valuables secure in the crowded bazaar and compare prices before buying. Return to Şişli by taxi or car, normally 30–50 minutes in evening traffic; leaving around 6:30–7:00 PM will be more comfortable than waiting until the main rush.
From Ibis Istanbul Şişli, leave around 8:00 AM for Dolmabahçe Palace in Beşiktaş. A taxi or private car usually takes 15–30 minutes, but morning traffic can stretch this longer. Have the driver use the palace-side entrance and confirm where they can wait; stopping and parking directly outside is limited. Arrive close to opening time, since Dolmabahçe Palace is much calmer early in the day. Allow about two hours for the ornate state rooms, crystal details and Bosphorus-facing grounds. Check the current opening day and reserve entry in advance, as the palace, harem and other sections can have separate access rules.
Walk roughly 10 minutes inland to Beşiktaş Fish Market, one of the neighborhood’s liveliest everyday corners. Give yourself about 45 minutes to browse the stalls and have Turkish coffee at a nearby café before continuing. From Beşiktaş, take a short taxi toward Karaköy—the coastal route is scenic but traffic-dependent—or use a bus if traffic is moving well. Plan around 20–35 minutes for the transfer.
Spend 1½–2 hours at İstanbul Modern, whose galleries focus on Turkish modern and contemporary art and offer excellent views toward the water. Check the current exhibition schedule and opening hours before setting out. It is then a short walk through Karaköy to Karaköy Lokantası for lunch. Allow at least 1¼ hours; the menu is a polished take on Turkish home cooking, and reservations are sensible at busy lunchtime or on evenings when the restaurant is open. Expect approximately €20–35 per person, excluding drinks.
After lunch, walk uphill through Galata to Galata Tower, allowing about 15 minutes for the climb and roughly an hour including the queue and viewing level. Timed tickets may apply, so booking ahead is worthwhile during busy periods. Rather than spending too long around the tower, enjoy the surrounding side streets, then take a taxi to Ortaköy. The drive normally takes 15–30 minutes depending on traffic and brings you to Ortaköy Mosque and the Bosphorus waterfront, where the late afternoon light is especially good. Allow 1½ hours for the mosque exterior, waterside stroll and a traditional kumpir from the kiosks near the square.
Leave Ortaköy around 6:30–7:00 PM for Ibis Istanbul Şişli, allowing 25–45 minutes by car and longer if evening traffic builds along Büyükdere or the waterfront roads. Arrange pickup before leaving Ortaköy, as street parking is difficult around the square. A taxi through Beşiktaş is the simplest return; if you still have energy, ask to be dropped near Nişantaşı for a short evening walk, but keep this optional so the day does not become rushed.
