Junnar Day Trip Itinerary - July 2024

  1. 9:00 AM: Shivneri Fort
    30 minutes (9.5 km) from Junnar Bus Stand

    Shivneri Fort is a must-visit place for history lovers. It is the birthplace of the legendary Maratha King, Shivaji Maharaj. The fort offers stunning views of the Sahyadri Mountains and has several temples, reservoirs and a statue of Jijabai, Shivaji's mother.

  2. 11:00 AM: Lenyadri Caves
    25 minutes (13.5 km) from Shivneri Fort

    Lenyadri Caves are a group of Buddhist rock-cut caves. There are a total of 30 caves, and each cave has a shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesh. The caves are situated on a hill and offer scenic views of the surrounding area. The climb to the caves can be a bit steep, but it is worth it.

  3. 1:00 PM: Lunch at Dhaba
    20 minutes (7.5 km) from Lenyadri Caves

    Stop at any dhaba on the way to have a delicious local lunch. You can try the traditional Maharashtrian thali with bhakri, varan, and sabzi, or the spicy misal pav. Don't forget to have a cup of chai to refresh yourself for the next stop.

  4. 2:30 PM: Naneghat Caves
    40 minutes (23 km) from the dhaba

    Naneghat Caves are a group of ancient caves that were used as a trade route between Kalyan and Junnar. The caves have inscriptions in Brahmi and Pali languages, and there are several rock-cut beds and water cisterns inside the caves. The view from the top of the caves is breathtaking.

  5. 4:30 PM: Shree Narayani Dham Temple
    45 minutes (25 km) from Naneghat Caves

    Shree Narayani Dham Temple is a serene and spiritual place that is dedicated to Goddess Narayani. The temple is built on a hill and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. The temple has several meditation halls, a museum, and a cafeteria that serves delicious snacks.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can visit the famous Bhimashankar Temple, which is one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. You can also go on a trek to the nearby Harishchandragad Fort, which is famous for its natural beauty and the Konkan Kada viewpoint.
