Begin in downtown Manistee with an easy hour along the Manistee Riverwalk, following the river channel toward the harbor and historic waterfront. It’s a pleasant way to get oriented, with working boats, old commercial buildings, and broad views where the river meets Lake Michigan. Allow extra time for photos and wandering; nearby downtown parking is generally convenient and free, though signs control the few time-limited spaces.
From downtown, drive about 10 minutes west to Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse at Fifth Avenue Beach. The pier walk takes roughly 45 minutes round trip, but check wind, waves, and posted warnings before entering—Lake Michigan conditions can change quickly in late October, and the pier may be slippery or closed. Continue a few minutes south by car to First Street Beach for a quieter shoreline stroll and, if the sky cooperates, sunset over the lake. Bring a warm layer; the beach is noticeably colder than downtown, and sunset arrives relatively early this time of year.
Return downtown for the Ramsdell Regional Center for the Arts, a beautifully restored historic theater. Spend about an hour looking over the building and checking whether that evening’s performance, gallery activity, or tour is available; programming and access are event-dependent, so confirm the schedule before relying on it. If nothing is on, a short walk around the surrounding historic streets makes a good low-key alternative before dinner.
Finish at Bluefish Kitchen + Bar, a relaxed downtown choice for seafood and American fare. Budget approximately $25–45 per person before drinks and allow about 90 minutes. Confirm its October evening hours and reserve if possible, since smaller-town dining options can fill up when a theater event is scheduled.
