3-Day Nature Itinerary for Chikkamagaluru in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mullayanagiri Peak
    10 minutes (3.5 miles) from Chikkamagaluru

    In the morning, visit the highest peak in Karnataka, Mullayanagiri. The peak is surrounded by lush green forests and offers a stunning view of the Western Ghats. After a short trek, head to the Seethalayanagiri Temple for a panoramic view of the surrounding hills. In the afternoon, visit the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to tigers, elephants and leopards. Enjoy a jeep safari and spot some exotic birds. In the evening, visit the Hebbe Falls, a beautiful waterfall with crystal clear water surrounded by dense forests.

  2. Day 2: Kudremukh National Park
    2 hours (60 miles) from Chikkamagaluru

    In the morning, head to the Kudremukh National Park, a biodiversity hotspot with a variety of flora and fauna. Enjoy a trek along the nature trails and spot some rare species of animals and birds. In the afternoon, visit the Kalasa Temple, a beautiful temple located on the banks of the Bhadra River. In the evening, visit the Hanuman Gundi Waterfall, a stunning waterfall located in the heart of a dense forest. Take a dip in the cool waters and relax.

  3. Day 3: Kemmanagundi
    1 hour 30 minutes (50 miles) from Chikkamagaluru

    In the morning, visit the Kemmanagundi Hill Station, a beautiful hill station surrounded by thick forests and coffee plantations. Enjoy a trek to the Z Point and enjoy a panoramic view of the valley. Visit the Shanti Falls and enjoy a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Hebbe Falls for a refreshing dip. In the evening, visit the Raj Bhavan, a beautiful colonial bungalow that offers a stunning view of the surrounding hills.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider visiting the Baba Budangiri, a beautiful mountain range that offers a breathtaking view of the sunrise. Also, take a stroll through the coffee plantations and learn about the coffee-making process. You can also plan a day trip to the nearby town of Belur and visit the Chennakeshava Temple, a beautiful temple built in the Hoysala style. To maximize your fun, try some of the local cuisine like Bisi bele bath, Vangi bath and Akki roti. Don't forget to try the local filter coffee. Lastly, make sure to carry comfortable walking shoes and clothes, a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent.
