Gandikota on a Shoestring Budget - 3 Day Itinerary (June 2023)

  1. Day 1: Gandikota Fort
    5 minutes (0.9 km) from Gandikota Bus Stand

    Morning: Explore the impressive Gandikota Fort, also known as the Red Fort of India. The Fort has stunning views of the gorge formed by the Pennar river. You can also visit the ruins of the Ranganatha Swamy Temple and the Jamia Masjid Mosque located inside the Fort.
    Afternoon: Head to the Gandikota Gorge Viewpoint, a 15-minute walk from the Fort. The Viewpoint offers magnificent panoramic views of the Gorge and Pennar River. You can relax and enjoy the scenery while having a picnic lunch.
    Evening: Visit the Gandikota Penchala Kona Temple, located 10 minutes (3 km) from the Fort. The Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located on the banks of the Pennar River. It's a great spot to watch the sunset.

  2. Day 2: Belum Caves
    1 hour 15 minutes (70 km) from Gandikota

    Morning: Head to Belum Caves, the second-largest cave system in the Indian subcontinent. The Cave system has many chambers with unique rock formations and underground passages. You can also visit the nearby Buddha statue and explore the nearby village.
    Afternoon: Have lunch at the nearby restaurants and cafes.
    Evening: Visit the Yaganti Temple, located 1 hour 15 minutes (60 km) from Belum Caves. The Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is famous for its Nandi statue. You can also visit the nearby caves and the Pushkarini lake.

  3. Day 3: Rayalacheruvu Lake
    1 hour (60 km) from Yaganti Temple

    Morning: Visit the Rayalacheruvu Lake, a scenic freshwater lake located in the Kadapa district. You can go for a boat ride or relax on the banks of the lake.
    Afternoon: Have lunch at the nearby restaurants and cafes.
    Evening: Visit the Sri Venkateswara Wildlife Sanctuary, located 1 hour (50 km) from the lake. The sanctuary is home to many animal species like tigers, elephants, and leopards. You can also explore the nearby temple and waterfalls.

Recommendations

While in Gandikota, you can also consider visiting the nearby Mylavaram Dam and the Makkah Masjid Mosque.
