Pondicherry 2-Day Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Promenade Beach
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Pondicherry Railway Station

    Morning: Start your day with a leisurely walk along the Promenade Beach, also known as Rock Beach. It's a perfect spot to enjoy the sunrise and watch locals exercise. After that, head to the nearby Le Cafe for breakfast. You can try their croissants, pancakes, and coffee.
    Afternoon: Visit the Pondicherry Museum, which has an impressive collection of artifacts dating back to the Roman period. You can see bronze statues, pottery and weaponry from the Chola and Pallava dynasties, and French furniture from the colonial era.
    Evening: Spend the evening at the Botanical Garden, located near the museum. It's a peaceful spot to relax and enjoy nature. The garden has a variety of plants, including rare species. Take a stroll around the park and unwind before heading back to your hotel.

  2. Day 2: Auroville and Matrimandir
    30 minutes (11 km) from Pondicherry City Centre

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to Auroville, an experimental township known for its sustainable living and spiritual practices. You can explore its unique architecture, organic farms, and art galleries. Don't forget to visit the Visitors Centre and watch the introductory film.
    Afternoon: Visit the Matrimandir, an iconic golden dome structure in the heart of Auroville. It's a spiritual center dedicated to meditation and inner peace. You can take a guided tour inside the building and learn about its architecture and significance.
    Evening: End your day with a visit to the Serenity Beach. It's a quiet and clean beach with golden sand and clear water. You can relax on the beach, swim or try some water sports like surfing and kayaking. There are a few shacks serving snacks and drinks.

Recommendations

If you have time, you can also visit the Aurobindo Ashram, which is located in the city centre. It's a spiritual center founded by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, and it's open to visitors. You can attend the evening meditation session or buy books from the bookstore.
