Jaipur on a Shoestring Budget in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Amer Fort
    30 minutes (6.7 km) from Jaipur City Centre

    Start your day by visiting the Amer Fort, a magnificent citadel built in the 16th century with red sandstone and marble. Be sure to arrive early to beat the crowds and take advantage of the cooler morning weather. Take a guided tour to learn about the history and architecture of the fort. After lunch, visit the nearby Jaigarh Fort, which is known for its well-preserved cannon foundry. End your day with a visit to the Jal Mahal, a beautiful palace floating on the Man Sagar Lake.

  2. Day 2: Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar
    20 minutes (4.5 km) from Amer Fort

    Start your day by visiting the Hawa Mahal, a unique five-storey palace with a honeycomb façade made of pink sandstone. From there, take a short walk to the Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory built in the 18th century. The Jantar Mantar has a collection of 19 instruments that were used to measure time and track celestial bodies. After lunch, head over to the City Palace, a magnificent palace complex that houses a museum and several courtyards. End your day with a visit to the Albert Hall Museum, which has a vast collection of artefacts, including an Egyptian mummy.

  3. Day 3: Birla Mandir and Nahargarh Fort
    20 minutes (6.5 km) from City Palace

    Start your day by visiting the Birla Mandir, a Hindu temple made of white marble. The temple is located on a hill, providing a stunning panoramic view of the city. After lunch, visit the Nahargarh Fort, which is situated at the top of the Aravalli Hills. The fort has several palaces, temples and gardens. End your day with a visit to the Jaipur Zoo, which houses several exotic animals, including Bengal tigers, leopards, and black panthers.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider visiting the Sisodia Rani Garden, which is a beautiful garden located 8 km from the city centre. You can also take a day trip to the Abhaneri Stepwell, which is an ancient stepwell located 95 km from Jaipur. To maximize your fun, try the local street food, such as kachori, samosa, and lassi. You can also shop for souvenirs at the Johari Bazaar or Bapu Bazaar.
