4-Day Nature Itinerary for Dalhousie and Khajjiar in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Khajjiar
    18 minutes (9.3 km) from Dalhousie

    In the morning, explore the Khajjiar Lake which is located in the middle of a dense forest and has a floating island in it. You can also take a short trek to the Khajji Nag Temple which is dedicated to the serpent god, Nag. In the afternoon, visit the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to various species of flora and fauna. Go for a guided nature walk or a jeep safari. In the evening, head to the Khajjiar Ground which is also known as the Mini Switzerland of India. Enjoy the beautiful sunset and take a horse ride around the lush green meadow.

  2. Day 2: Panchpula and Satdhara Falls
    30 minutes (12 km) from Khajjiar

    Start your day by hiking to the Panchpula waterfall which is surrounded by picturesque mountains and has a monument dedicated to the revolutionary Sardar Ajit Singh. In the afternoon, visit the Satdhara Falls which is known for its therapeutic properties and is surrounded by lush greenery. You can also take a dip in the natural pool. In the evening, head back to Khajjiar and enjoy a bonfire under the starry sky.

  3. Day 3: Sach Pass and Chamba
    2 hours and 20 minutes (87.4 km) from Khajjiar

    Start early in the morning and drive to the Sach Pass which is located at an altitude of 14,500 feet. Enjoy the scenic beauty and take a short trek to the Devi Temple which is located at the pass. In the afternoon, head to the historical town of Chamba which is known for its ancient temples and handicrafts. Visit the Laxmi Narayan Temple and the Bhuri Singh Museum. In the evening, enjoy a cup of tea at the Chaugan which is a grassy field surrounded by shops and restaurants.

  4. Day 4: Dalhousie
    1 hour and 20 minutes (34.8 km) from Chamba

    Start your day by visiting the St. John's Church which is located in the Gandhi Chowk area. You can also take a short walk to the Subhash Baoli which is a natural spring surrounded by pine trees. In the afternoon, visit the Dainkund Peak which is the highest peak in Dalhousie. Enjoy the panoramic view of the valley and go for a short trek to the Pholani Devi Temple. In the evening, head back to Gandhi Chowk and enjoy some local street food.
