Kerala Winter Adventure Itinerary - December 2024

  1. Day 1: Kochi
    40 minutes (22.5 km) from Cochin International airport

    In the morning, visit the iconic Chinese fishing nets of Fort Kochi while enjoying the sunrise. Later, explore the Jewish Quarter and the Mattancherry Palace. In the afternoon, take a ferry to Vypeen Island and spend time at Cherai Beach. In the evening, go to the Kerala Kathakali Centre to watch a traditional Kathakali dance performance.

  2. Day 2: Munnar
    4 hours 30 minutes (130 km) from Kochi

    Drive to Munnar, a hill station known for its tea plantations. In the morning, visit Mattupetty Dam and go on a boating trip. In the afternoon, visit the Tea Museum and learn about the tea-making process. In the evening, take a short hike to the nearby Echo Point.

  3. Day 3: Thekkady
    3 hours (91 km) from Munnar

    Drive to Thekkady, a wildlife sanctuary famous for its elephants, tigers, and various other animals. In the morning, go on a guided jungle walk and birdwatching trip. In the afternoon, visit the spice plantations and learn about different spices and their uses. In the evening, enjoy a cultural performance showcasing traditional tribal dances.

  4. Day 4: Alleppey
    3 hours (140 km) from Thekkady

    Drive to Alleppey, known for its backwaters and houseboat cruises. In the morning, take a 2-hour houseboat ride and enjoy the scenic views of the backwaters.   6. Day 6: Thiruvananthapuram

    Drive to Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. In the morning, visit the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, one of the richest temples in the world. In the afternoon, visit the Napier Museum and the Zoological Park. In the evening, go on a shopping spree at the Chalai Market.

Recommendations

If you have the time, consider visiting the Athirapally Waterfalls and the Silent Valley National Park. They are both located in the Thrissur district, about 3 hours from Kochi. You can also take a day trip to the Hill Palace Museum and the Vazhachal Waterfalls from Kochi or Thekkady. For a more adventurous trip, go trekking in the Western Ghats or kayaking in the backwaters. Make sure to try out the local cuisine, especially seafood and Kerala-style biryani. Happy traveling!
