Getting around Barbados requires a rental car, taxi, or bus ride. Taxis are widely available but be sure to negotiate the price beforehand; public transportation is a cost-effective way, but the timetables may be unreliable. Car rentals are available at the airport or for delivery to hotels. The estimated average cost of a rental car is $40-50 per day.
If you only have five days to spend on the island, consider skipping the hike and spending a second day at the beach or catamaran tour. Barbados knows how to party, so be sure to check what concerts, festival or carnival at the time of your visit. Don't forget to try bajan fish cakes and rum punch.
