Two-Day Itinerary for Somnath Temple in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Somnath Temple
    Located in Veraval, 5 minutes (1.8 km) from Somnath Railway Station

    Morning: Start the day with an early morning visit to the Somnath Temple, one of the most sacred temples in India. The temple is believed to have been built by Lord Soma, the Moon God, and has been destroyed and rebuilt several times in history. Witness the Aarti ceremony which takes place at 7:00 am and is a beautiful sight to behold.

    Afternoon: After having breakfast, visit the Triveni Sangam, which is the confluence of three holy rivers - Hiran, Kapila and Saraswati. Take a boat ride and explore the nearby temples and ashrams.

    Evening: Enjoy a beautiful sunset at the Somnath Beach, located just 15 minutes (3 km) from the temple. Take a stroll and enjoy the cool breeze while watching the waves crash against the shore.

  2. Day 2: Gir National Park
    Located in Sasan Gir, 1 hour 15 minutes (50 km) from Somnath

    Morning: Start the day early and head to the Gir National Park for a jungle safari. The park is home to the Asiatic lions and is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries in India. Spot other animals like leopards, deer, and crocodiles as you explore the park.

    Afternoon: Stop for lunch at the Gir Jungle Lodge and then head to the Kamleshwar Dam, located just 30 minutes (17 km) from the park. The dam is a popular picnic spot and offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and forest.

    Evening: Head back to Somnath and visit the Bhalka Tirtha, which is a sacred site for Hindus. It is believed to be the spot where Lord Krishna was accidentally shot by an arrow. Witness the evening Aarti ceremony at the Somnath Temple and end the day with dinner at a local restaurant.
