7-Day Itinerary from Chennai to Kedarnath in October 2023

  1. Day 1: Chennai

  2. Day 2: Dehradun

    In the morning, take a cable car ride to Gun Hill for a panoramic view of the Himalayas. In the afternoon, visit the Kempty Falls, a popular picnic spot. In the evening, take a stroll down the Mall Road, which is lined with shops and restaurants.

  3. Day 3: Rishikesh
    Mussoorie
    Drive to Rishikesh (1h 30m)

    In the morning, visit the Trimbakeshwar Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has a beautiful architecture. In the afternoon, visit the Beatles Ashram, which was once visited by the Beatles in the 1960s. In the evening, attend the Ganga Aarti at Parmarth Niketan, a Hindu religious ritual.

  4. Day 4: Haridwar
    Rishikesh
    Drive to Haridwar (1h)

    In the morning, visit the Har Ki Pauri ghat, where the Ganges River is believed to have divided into four parts. In the afternoon, visit the Mansa Devi Temple, which is accessible by a cable car. In the evening, attend the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri ghat.

  5. Day 5: Rudraprayag
    Haridwar
    Drive to Rudraprayag (5h)

    In the morning, visit the Chandi Devi Temple, which is accessible by a cable car and offers a beautiful view of Haridwar. In the afternoon, visit the Daksheswara Mahadev Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the evening, relax by the Mandakini River.

  6. Day 6: Kedarnath

    Drive to Sonprayag (3h); Trek to Kedarnath (5h)

  7. Day 7: Chennai

    Trek to Sonprayag (5h); Drive to Dehradun (7h 30m); Flight to Chennai (2h 40m)

    In the morning, trek back to Sonprayag and then drive to Dehradun. In the afternoon, visit the Forest Research Institute, which has a museum and botanical gardens. In the evening, catch a flight back to Chennai.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Valley of Flowers National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to rare and endangered species of flora and fauna. You can also visit the Badrinath Temple, another of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites. To maximize your fun, try river rafting or bungee jumping in Rishikesh. Don't forget to try the local cuisine, which includes dishes like aloo ke gutke, kafuli, and bal mithai.
