Family Friendly 5-Day Mumbai Itinerary in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Gateway of India
    30 minutes (11 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport

    In the morning, head to Mumbai's most iconic landmark, the Gateway of India. Here you can take a boat ride to Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or just enjoy the view of the Arabian Sea. In the afternoon, explore the nearby Colaba Causeway, a popular shopping street with unique finds. In the evening, catch the sunset over the sea before grabbing dinner at one of the many restaurants in the area.

  2. Day 2: Haji Ali Dargah
    30 minutes (9 km) from Gateway of India

    In the morning, visit the Haji Ali Dargah, a beautiful mosque and shrine located on a small islet in the Arabian Sea. Afterward, head to the Nehru Science Centre, a hands-on museum perfect for kids. In the evening, take a stroll along Marine Drive and enjoy the views of the city.

  3. Day 3: Sanjay Gandhi National Park
    1 hour 30 minutes (38 km) from Haji Ali Dargah

    Spend the day at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, a vast park with lush forests, scenic lakes, and a variety of wildlife. Take a safari tour or go trekking to explore the park. In the evening, head to the nearby Kanheri Caves, a complex of ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves and monasteries.

  4. Day 4: Juhu Beach
    1 hour (16 km) from Sanjay Gandhi National Park

    Start your day with a visit to the iconic Siddhivinayak Temple, one of Mumbai's most revered temples. Then, head to Juhu Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Mumbai. Spend the day lounging on the beach, enjoying the food stalls, and taking part in the many activities available. In the evening, catch a movie at the nearby PVR Cinema.

  5. Day 5: Elephanta Caves
    1 hour (23 km) from Juhu Beach

    Spend your last day in Mumbai exploring the Elephanta Caves, a stunning complex of ancient cave temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Take the ferry from Gateway of India to the island where the caves are located. Spend the day exploring the caves and learning about their history and significance. In the evening, head back to the city for a farewell dinner at one of Mumbai's many fantastic restaurants.

If you have more time in Mumbai, consider visiting the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and stunning example of Victorian Gothic architecture. Bollywood fans may enjoy a tour of Film City, the center of India's film industry. For a day trip, consider visiting the nearby hill station of Lonavala, known for its stunning scenery and delicious food. To maximize your fun, try to visit Mumbai during one of its many festivals, such as the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in August.
